【摘要】:《小说林》第9期上的"环球揽胜图说"通过罗列全球"名胜",设计了一个掷骰爬格的赌博游戏。这样的文明教化,可以说形塑了清末特别的"文学经济学":借由文字的简洁表述,开启了国人繁复的现代性想象。且更重要的是,透过接引"天下"理念到游戏之中,它又极轻便地化解了现代性迟到的焦虑,帮助平衡了一般认识中总是把"世界"和殖民相挂钩的看法。"图说"实际上有说无图。图像的缺席,与其说暗示了文字中心主义的昌盛,毋宁说其另有一脉"文化的图谱"。从《小说林》的"图画"栏目、《孽海花》的帕米尔地图,再到游记,及《八十日环游记》等翻译小说,其连类所及,形成了一个拓扑空间,示现了一时心灵结构的嬗变和文化观念的杂沓。
