赛珍珠论中国传统小说的社会功能

【摘要】：作为学贯中西的学者型作家,赛珍珠对中国传统小说的社会意义和功能有较深刻而完整的认识。她认为中国传统社会中,小说被视为无社会意义而颇受歧视和压抑,其地位无法与有言志、说教、辅政作用的诗文相比类。小说在上流社会和下层民间的价值迥然不同。在统治集团和社会上层,其功能主要反映在载道、解忧和劝谏三个方面,"载道"和"劝谏"是出于政治需要,小说是作为统治思想的儒学的附庸,而"解忧"则折射出上层文人显宦儒道互补的文化心理结构。对于民间大众来说,小说是"中国生活的镜子",是对五光十色的社会景象及其中形形色色人物的生活、心态和愿望的真实反映,以其极强的艺术感染力在受众中产生共鸣,使接受者在对象世界里发现自己并肯定自己,在认识、娱乐、教育、交际、陶冶、启迪、审美方面都有很大的功效。
[Abstract]:As a scholar writer, Pearl Buck has a deep and complete understanding of the social significance and function of Chinese traditional novels. She thinks that in the traditional Chinese society, the novel is regarded as having no social significance and being discriminated against and suppressed, and its position can not be compared with the poetry and prose which have the function of ambition, preaching and auxiliary government. The values of novels in the upper class and the lower classes are very different. In the ruling group and the upper level of society, its functions are mainly reflected in the three aspects of "Tao", "resolution of worries" and "persuasion". "Tao" and "admonition" are out of political necessity, and novels are the vassals of Confucianism as the ruling ideology. "resolving worries" reflects the cultural psychological structure of the upper literati's mutual complementation of Confucianism and Taoism. To the masses of the people, the novel is "the mirror of China's life". It is a true reflection of the colorful social scene and the life, mentality and desire of all kinds of people. It resonates with the audience with its strong artistic appeal. To enable the receiver to find himself and affirm himself in the object world has great effects in cognition, entertainment, education, communication, edification, enlightenment, and aesthetics.
