[Abstract]:The "Great Recession" caused by the subprime mortgage crisis in the United States in 2007 has discredited mainstream western economics, as well as the reputation of Minsky and monopoly capitalists in non-mainstream economic circles. Unlike mainstream economics, which blamed the crisis on external shocks and policy errors, Minsky and monopoly capital schools both looked at the process of capital accumulation under capitalist conditions and saw through the inherent instability defects of capitalism. This defect was magnified and exacerbated by the new capitalist model driven by financialization since the 1980s, which led to the worst financial crisis and economic recession since the Great Depression of the 20th century. However, due to the difference of the imagined picture, the monopoly capital school developed the theory of financialization and crisis theory of capitalism from the perspective of studying the economic stagnation trend of excessive accumulation of capital in the stage of monopoly capitalism. Minsky put forward the hypothesis of financial instability and crisis theory directly from the financing process of capital accumulation in developed capitalist countries. The analysis of the two ideas is not only helpful to improve the understanding of the instability of capitalism, but also to judge and think about the future trend of capitalism.
