精确测定大麦哲伦星系的距离

【摘要】:正精确测定我们附近星系或是遥远星系的距离,对于研究宇宙的膨胀速率以及暗能量都是十分重要的。在具体操作中,天文学家使用"距离阶梯递推"的方法,测量遥远星系的距离:首先测定近处天体的距离,以此为尺子,用以测定稍远天体的距离,以此类推,最终实现距离达几十亿光年的星系的测定。Pietrzyński在Nature周刊上发表文章,宣称已经对我们银河系的最近邻星系——大麦哲伦星系的距离做出了迄今为止最高精度(2.2%)的测定。长期以来,上述距离一直是"距离阶梯"逐级延伸过程中的一个瓶颈。
[Abstract]:It is important to study the expansion rate and dark energy of the universe by accurately measuring the distance between our nearby galaxies and distant galaxies. In practice, astronomers use the "distance step recursion" method to measure the distances of distant galaxies: first, to measure the distance of a near-point object, as a ruler, to measure the distance of a slightly distant object, and so on. Pietrzy ski, published in Nature Weekly, claims to have made the most accurate (2.2%) measurement of the distance of our galaxy's nearest neighbor galaxy, the Great Magellanic galaxy, to date. For a long time, the above-mentioned distance has been a bottleneck in the gradual extension of the distance ladder.
