【摘要】：如今，党派政治极化已经成为美国政治体系最根本的特征之一。本文着重分析了党派政治极化的主要表现、原因及可能产生的后果。 党派政治极化的表现有：国会两党间意识形态重叠几乎消失，，大量温和派议员流失，党内的同质性和凝聚力显著增强。同时由于全体选民中发生政党选择等原因，出现了两党之间地理上红色州与蓝色州的对立，以及宗教选民和世俗选民之间的裂痕。 本文主要将这种极化现象归因于几种因素的综合，其中包括20世纪60年代以来政党和选民的重组过程、重新划分选区和党内初选的影响、充满道德与文化意味政治的崛起以及经济上的不平等。 党派政治极化会损害国会立法进程的质量，从而削弱其立法能力，造成更多政策僵局。同时还可能扭曲政府内部原本符合宪法初衷的部门间关系，导致美国外交政策的不稳定，甚至侵蚀美国公众对政府机构的信任。党派政治极化对美国政治进程的影响不容小觑。
