“欧洲的孔子”——威尔森对于卡莱尔形象的塑造

【摘要】：威尔森所写六册的卡莱尔传(1923-1934)被认为是卡莱尔传记中“最正确的传记”,然而其将卡莱尔塑造为“欧洲的孔子”的形象,为何被卡莱尔研究者所忽视?或许这与大多数卡莱尔的拥护者不像威尔森受到中国文化的深刻影响有关。然而,真正的原因或许是:在二十世纪“弗路德的争议”与批判卡莱尔的风潮中,对于卡莱尔形象的塑造上,威尔森与其他卡莱尔的拥护者采取不同的方式。一般是将卡莱尔视为是“文学天才”,威尔森仍是以“社会导师”的角度为卡莱尔辩护,威尔森甚至将卡莱尔比拟为“欧洲的孔子”,扩大“赤尔西贤者”的涵盖性,由英国的名人扩展为世界性的伟人。本文〈“欧洲的孔子”—威尔森对于卡莱尔形象的塑造〉企图探讨为何威尔森会赋予卡莱尔“欧洲的孔子”这样的称号?这样的称号具有什么样的意义?威尔森将卡莱尔与孔子相比拟,威尔森是如何形塑“欧洲的孔子”这样的形象?将卡莱尔与孔子相比拟,这种比拟在中西文化的比较研究上有何价值?
[Abstract]:Wilson's six-volume biography of Carlyle (1923-1934) is regarded as the "most correct biography" in Carlyle's biography, but why is it ignored by Carlyle researchers when he portrays Carlisle as "Confucius of Europe"? Perhaps this is due to the fact that most Carlyle advocates are not deeply influenced by Chinese culture like Wilson. The real reason, however, may be that Wilson and other Carlyle advocates took a different approach to Carlyle's image in the 20th century's controversy and critique of Carlisle. Generally speaking, Carlisle was regarded as a "literary genius", and Wilson still defended Carlyle from the angle of "social mentor". Wilson even likened Carlisle to "Confucius in Europe" and expanded the coverage of the "Chilcius Sage". From a famous man in England to a great man in the world. This article, "Confucius in Europe"-Wilson's portrayal of Carlisle's image, attempts to explore why Wilson gave Carlisle the title of "Confucius in Europe"? What is the meaning of such a title? Wilson likened Carlisle to Confucius. How did Wilson shape the image of "Confucius in Europe"? What is the value of comparing Carlisle with Confucius in the comparative study of Chinese and Western cultures?
