【摘要】：上世纪六十年代，叙事研究在西方兴起，随后很快发展成为一门新兴学科。叙事学就是关于叙事作品、叙述、叙述结构以及叙述性的理论，经历了早期叙事理论、经典叙事学、后经典叙事学三个阶段。叙述不仅表征现实，同时还建构现实。曾经在语料库翻译研究领域取得卓越成绩的英国翻译学者蒙娜·贝克把社会学领域的叙事研究与翻译研究相结合形成了社会叙事理论，为翻译理论研究提供了新的思路和独特的视角。贝克认为：翻译不仅表征叙述，同时还建构叙述。 严复的译作《天演论》是中国翻译界一个划时代的作品，严复也因此创造了“信达雅”的翻译标准，，从而奠定了他在中国翻译界的重要地位，多年来一直被翻译理论家从多方面进行研究。然而从社会学的角度去研究《天演论》对晚清时代的社会影响却鲜有人做。严复所生活的时代，正是中国遭受西方列强入侵、封建社会日渐衰落以及民众思想处于混沌之时，当时社会的主流话语依然是“三纲五常”、“别尊卑，明贵贱”、“天不变，道亦不变”等等。为了改变当时的社会现状，为了民族的未来，严复选择了翻译西学，以此来达到自己改变落后的封建主流话语，从而振兴中华的抱负。 翻译作为一种社会叙述，它不仅表征现实，同时还建构现实。严复是怎样通过他的译作来重新建构主流话语的呢?这些主流话语又是通过什么方式来对当时的社会产生影响的呢？在本文中笔者试图以社会叙事理论中的建构策略为支点来探究严复在翻译《进化论与伦理学》时如何选择并建构诸如“竞争”、“淘汰”、“物竞天择”、“适者生存”等主流话语的，进而阐明其译作《天演论》中的主流话语是如何影响人们思想及整个晚清局势的。蒙娜·贝克的社会叙事理论中的建构策略主要包括：时空建构、加标记建构、选择性建构和对参与者的重新定位四种策略。笔者通过仔细研读严复译作与原文本，发现以上所述的四种建构策略很好地体现《天演论》主流话语的叙述当中。此外，笔者通过“叙述”的三种类型，即：概念叙述、集体叙述和公共叙述，阐述了严复主流话语的传播过程，并结合译文详实地论证了《天演论》中主流话语的叙述是如何影响到晚清政局的。
