About Us
1 IntroductionThe Singapore College of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established in 1953 as the Chinese Physician Training College (renamed in 1976) by the Singapore Chinese Physicians’ Association. Since then, the college has grown to be a well-established Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) institution in the region.
These graduates are currently practicing TCM in various parts of Singapore, providing TCM treatment and healthcare to the public, contributing significantly to TCM development in the country.

3 Courses3.1 Advanced Diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine (Chinese) – 5 years Full Time(enrollement from 2011)

Comprehensive training program in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the objective is to be qualified for TCM Physician’s Registration Examination set by Singapore TCM Practitioners Board, under Ministry of Health, to become registered and licensed TCM Physician.
This course is a 5-year full time program for total of 5000 course hours including theory and clinical lessons. The course syllabus was approved and accredited by Singapore TCM Practitioners Board.
The course is conducted 6 days per week from 8.30am to 5.00pm (actual schedule will be based on the time table of the course syllabus). It is also required to attend clinical practices at the Singapore Chung Hwa Medical Institution and affiliated clinics.
Upon complete, pass and graduate from the course, candidate is entitle to sit for Singapore TCM Registration Examination (STRE). To be registered TCM Physician and license for TCM practising is subject to pass in the STRE.
Candidate, completion of the course is able to further pursue for the post-graduate course, Master Degree in TCM, or Doctoral Degree in TCM with conditions apply.

3.2 Advanced Diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine (Chinese) – 7 years Part Time(enrollement from 2011)

This course is a 7-year part time program for total of 5000 course hours including theory and clinical lessons. The course syllabus was approved and accredited by Singapore TCM Practitioners Board.
The course is conducted 3-5 nights per week from 7.00pm to 10.15pm (actual schedule will be based on the time table of the course syllabus). It is also required to attend clinical practices at the Singapore Chung Hwa Medical Institution and affiliated clinics.
Upon complete, pass and graduate from the course, candidate is entitle to sit for Singapore TCM Registration Examination (STRE). To be registered TCM Physician and license for TCM practising is subject to pass in the STRE.

3.5 Graduate Diploma in Acupuncture (only applicable to Singapore Registered Medical or Dental Practitioners)

Comprehensive training program in Acupuncture, the objective is to be qualified for Singapore Acupuncturist Registration Examination (SARE) set by Singapore TCM Practitioners Board, under Ministry of Health, to become registered and licensed Acupuncturist.
This course is a 2-year part time program for total of 405 course hours including theory and clinical lessons. The course syllabus was approved and accredited by Singapore TCM Practitioners Board.
The theory course is conducted once a week on Sunday afternoon (actual schedule will be based on the time table of the course syllabus). It is also required to go for clinical practice the Singapore Chung Hwa Medical Institution and affiliated clinics.
Upon completed, passed and graduated from the course, candidate is entitled to sit for Singapore Acupuncturist Registration Examination (SARE). To be registered Acupuncturist and license for practice is subject to pass in the SARE.

3.6 Diploma in Chinese Medicated Food Dietician (Chinese)

The objective is to use Chinese medicated food diet to prevent disease, enhance physical fitness, health care and rehabilitation, promotes health, longevity and beauty. This course may also apply its knowledge and skills learnt for restaurant operators for the unique service and improve of quality.
The course is a part time course complete in 2 years for 13 subjects, total 548 course hours.

Traditional Chinese Health Preservation study is an important part of TCM; it is the wisdom and heritage of our forefathers that had passed down for generations. Under the guidance of TCM theory, the Traditional Chinese Health Preservation study, adopting a practical scientific approach, explore the principles guiding the human life cycle, summarised the experiences and knowledge of generation of TCM experts in the area of understanding the body constitutions, diseases prevention with the objective of achieving longevity. As Singapore society is progressing into an aging economy, such sharing of knowledge is timely.

Certificate in Basic Theory of TCM course is specially designed for the general public to have an essential basic knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It caters to those who wish to learn more about TCM or those with intention to engage in TCM related jobs and business. After completion of the course, students will have a good foundation in the basic theory of TCM and will be able to further study other TCM courses such as Diploma in TCM Assistant.

4 Teaching resources4.1 Teaching staff
Currently, the college has 90 teaching staff, including 15 professors, associate professors. The others are senior lecturers, lecturers or assistant lecturers. In addition, there are other visiting teaching staff from Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine etc.as well as professors from the local Universities.
The ratio of teacher to student for every course as follows:
Clinical Session - 1 teacher ≤ 5 students
Group Clinical Session - 1 teacher ≤ 20 students
Lecture -
1 teacher ≤ 100 students
Currently, the college's number of student is more than 800.
4.2 Lecture halls and classrooms
The College has 3 Classroms and 2 Lecture Halls that are fully furnished with teaching aids and equipment. The capacity of student is between 40-50 students for classroom and 100-150 for lecture hall.
4.3 TCM Library
The College has an in-house TCM library with a vast collection of TCM books and journals, all of which are easily searchable via a computerized database.
4.4 Laboratory
Laboratory practice for some subjects, such as the Chinese medicine preparation and western medical science, will be held in the laboratory
4.5 Clinical Practice
Clinical practice in the following areas will be held at the Singapore Chung Hwa Medical Institution and affiliated clinics.i. Internal Medicine;
ii. Acupuncture;
iii. Various Specialized fields (such as gynaecology, paediatrics, massotherapy, oncology, etc)
4.6 Herbal Recognition Practice
Practice in herbal recognition and usage, will be held at the Singapore Chung Hwa Medical Institution’s herbal unit.
