从泰特勒翻译三原则的角度审视林语堂《浮生六记》的翻译

【摘要】:作为中国杰出的翻译家,林语堂成功地翻译了清朝文人沈复的自传式作品《浮生六记》。该书包括闺房记乐,闲情记趣,坎坷记愁,浪游记快,中山记历和养生记道六章,再现了中国传统生活,反映了古代文人特有的世界观,人生观和价值观。经过十多次认真修改,《浮生六记》成为了林语堂最有代表性的翻译作品之一。 本文在英国翻译理论家亚历山大·弗雷泽·泰特勒“翻译三原则”的指导下,通过研究林语堂译本中极具代表性的词组、句子和段落,深入剖析了林语堂的译文如何反映原文的思想,体现原文的风格以及保持原文的流畅性,旨在促进对林语堂以及《浮生六记》翻译的研究。在对译本的分析过程中,作者也表达了自身对泰特勒翻译原则和林语堂翻译作品的理解。 本文首先简要介绍了国内外对林译《浮生六记》的相关研究以及泰特勒的“翻译三原则”。泰特勒“翻译三原则”中的第一原则认为译文应完全复写出原文的思想。修辞,迷信和文化词都是中国文化的重要组成部分。翻译活动不仅是语言的传递更是文化的交流。林语堂既是一名忠实读者更是一名成功的译者。通过分析,本文得出结论林语堂译本中词语的修辞运用,词语中的迷信成分的处理,文化词的翻译都成功的促进了中西文化的交流,完整地复述了原文的思想; 第二原则认为译文的风格和表达形式应该和原文一致。诗歌在中国的发展历史悠久。从某种意义上说,诗歌的发展代表了中国文化的发展进程。但是与此同时,诗歌的翻译对译者的要求很苛刻,这是由诗歌自身的特点决定的。通过对译本中诗歌以及段落翻译的分析,本文发现林语堂精通原作语言,并且对作品主题十分熟悉,通过译语传达了原文作者的风格和笔调; 第三原则认为译文应具备与原作一样的流畅性。《浮生六记》是沈复的自传式作品,作品中记录了中国古代传统习俗和感人至深的情感语句。泰特勒认为保持原作的流畅性是翻译过程中最难做到的。通过深入分析译文中中国习俗,情感语句和习俗的翻译,本文认为林语堂凭借其高超的艺术造诣和非凡的文化修养,成功地保持了原作的流畅性。 作者希望本文可以有助于国内外学者对林译《浮生六记》的理解,提高对泰特勒和林语堂翻译理论的认识。
[Abstract]:As an outstanding translator in China, Lin Yutang successfully translated the autobiographical works of Shen Fu, a literary man of the Qing Dynasty, "six chapters of Floating Life". The book includes six chapters, including boudoir music, leisure memory, bumpy memory, wave travels fast, Zhongshan record and health record, which reproduces Chinese traditional life, reflecting the unique world outlook, outlook on life and values of ancient literati. After more than 10 serious modifications, the six chapters of floating life became one of Lin Yutang's most representative translation works.
Under the guidance of the three principles of translation, Alexander Fraser Teitler, the English translation theorist, through the study of the most representative phrases, sentences and paragraphs in the Lin Yutang translation, this paper deeply analyzes how Lin Yutang's translation reflects the thought of the original text, embodies the style of the original text and maintains the fluency of the original text. In the analysis of the translation, the author also expressed his own understanding of the translation principles of Lin Yutang and Lin Yutang's translation.
The first principle of the first principle in the three principles of translation is that the translation should completely rewrite the thought of the original text. Rhetoric, superstition and cultural words are an important part of Chinese culture. Translation activities are not only the language of the language, but the translation activities are not only the language of the language. The transfer of words is more cultural exchange. Lin Yutang is not only a faithful reader but also a successful translator. Through analysis, this article draws a conclusion that the rhetorical use of words in the Lin Yutang translation, the processing of the superstitious components in the words and the translation of cultural words have successfully promoted the exchange of Chinese and Western languages and retold the thought of the original text.
The second principle holds that the style and expression of the translation should be consistent with the original. The development of poetry has a long history in China. In a sense, the development of poetry represents the process of the development of Chinese culture. At the same time, the translation of poetry is very demanding for the translator. This is determined by the characteristics of the poem itself. In the analysis of Chinese poetry and paragraph translation, it is found that Lin Yutang is proficient in the original language and is very familiar with the theme of the works, and conveys the style and tone of the original author through the translation.
The third principle holds that the translation should have the same fluency as the original. The six chapters of floating life are the autobiographical works of Shen Fu, which records ancient Chinese traditional customs and emotional statements. In the translation of sentences and customs, this article holds that Lin Yutang has successfully maintained the fluency of his original works with his superb artistic attainments and extraordinary cultural accomplishment.
The author hopes that this article can help scholars at home and abroad understand Lin's translation of six chapters of Floating Life and improve their understanding of Teitler's and Lin Yutang's translation theories.
