[Abstract]:Proverbs are the epitome and essence of a national culture. It comes from life, but it is higher than life, and the content is closely related to production practice, customs and habits, historical allusions, cultural civilization, religious ethics and so on. Proverbs often contain rich philosophy and moral, not only reflect the wisdom of a nation, but also reflect its magnificent cultural context. Therefore, as far as translation is concerned, proverbs carry a more important mission, that is, to express the accumulated warning words for thousands of years, to convey the philosophy contained therein, and to spread the concentrated cultural essence. This report is based on the translation of Shen Shixi's animal novel, the Dog on both sides, on the basis of the translation of the relevant chapters of the novel. This paper analyzes and probes into the translation of proverbs, which is the most prominent and difficult problem in translation. By explaining the definition of proverbs, the classification of proverbs, the differences between English and Chinese proverbs, the principles and theories of translating proverbs into English, as well as the ways of positive and negative examples and internal and external comparison of texts, this paper discusses and summarizes the techniques and methods of translating proverbs into English. Although translation, especially the translation of proverbs, has no fixed standards, it is hoped that this report can provide some references for the translation criteria of Chinese proverbs from the perspective of the author, so as to achieve the purpose of optimal communication and the most effective cultural communication.
