英文小说“The State”(“境界”)和“Seeing Ershadi”(“看见埃沙迪”)汉译实践报告

本翻译实践报告以彼得·纽马克(Peter Newmark)的语义翻译与交际翻译为理论指导,翻译了两篇短篇小说“The State(《境界》)”和“Seeing Ershadi(《看见埃沙迪》)”,分别为汤米·奥兰奇(Tommy Orange)和妮可·克劳斯(Nicole Krauss)所作。两篇小说均选自《纽约客》,该杂志经导师推荐,译者自主选择其中两篇小说并完成翻译实践。翻译实践文本为小说体裁,奥兰奇的作品热情奔放,结构大胆新颖,情节跳跃;克劳斯善于大量的心理活动描写,翻译时若不多次阅读揣摩,便很难把握主人公的情绪脉络。这都增加了翻译的复杂性。在翻译过程中译者不仅要最大化还原原文内容、保留语言结构,还需要考虑目的语读者的思维方式和阅读习惯,进行逻辑方面的调整。因此译者选择彼得·纽马克的语义翻译与交际翻译为理论指导,在翻译过程采用了词性转换、句式重组、衔接和连贯等方法。通过此次翻译实践,本人认识到了理论与实践的结合在翻译中的重要性。在理论的指导下,进行实践工作时才有方向性;在实践中,理论才能得到进一步运用与完善。
