[Abstract]:The Secret Life of the Bee is Sue Munk Kidd's first novel. With its firm and confident tone, the novel is popular with readers and critics. As a growth story, the Secret Life of the Bee reveals the maturity of Lily Owens, the protagonist. Lily has experienced a series of events, and at the end of the novel, she finally takes on the active role in her life, and gradually matures to become a real woman. Scholars at home and abroad have different perspectives on the study of this book, but it is rare to explore the ecological feminism thought embodied by author Kidd in his novels. Therefore, this thesis tries to use the theory of ecological feminist criticism to interpret the American novel, which illustrates the growth and changes of a white girl in the 1960s. On the one hand, it shows the close relationship between women and nature, and they are mutually comforting and interdependent. At the same time, they expose the oppression and domination of nature and women by patriarchal society under patriarchal culture. The root of the dual domination of nature and women, that is, the criticism of patriarchal culture and the efforts to rebuild a harmonious society, is the significance of eco-feminist literary criticism. This thesis is divided into five parts: Introduction: this section briefly introduces the life of author Sue Munk Kidd, the main plot of the novel the Secret Life of the Bee and its comments. Chapter one "brief introduction to Eco-feminism": this chapter introduces the theoretical basis of the thesis-Eco-Feminism and Eco-feminism Literary criticism, and clarifies the possibility of eco-feminist interpretation of the novel. Chapter two, "the dual predicament of Nature and Women": this chapter analyzes the relationship between man and nature and between men and women, and further points out that the root of the double oppression between nature and women lies in the patriarchal cultural concept. Chapter three, "dual Resistance between Nature and Women": this chapter will further elaborate the face of oppression, nature and female resistance in the novel. Nature retaliates against human beings, while women deconstruct and subvert patriarchy by being close to nature and pursuing self-perfection. Their aim is to rebuild a harmonious society in which man and nature can coexist healthily. Conclusion: this part summarizes the whole paper and points out that although eco-feminism attacked the patriarchal system that led to the dual domination of women and nature, But it advocates to resolve the crisis of human spirit in the new century by pursuing and rebuilding harmonious society.
