[Abstract]:Philip Ross is an influential Jewish writer who is active in American literary world. Philip Ross has a deep insight into American history, culture and political background. He writes about the life of American Jews in many ways and from many angles. He has a long tradition of Jewish literature and also has the flavor of American literature. Most Jewish writers, ethnicities, cultures, identities and other issues scattered in the United States can not be avoided. Jewish writers are exposed to the dual influence of American culture and Jewish culture, which is bound to reflect the tendency of double cultural identity in their creation. In his early works, Ross seemed to want to get rid of the influence of Jewish culture on his works, but in his later works, For example, the American Shepherd reflects the trend of returning to the Jewish cultural background in Ross's writing. The difference in the living state and identity of the three generations of American Jews in the whole family reflected in the American Shepherd is the best proof of this trend. Based on the study of cultural identity, this paper focuses on the analysis of the evolution of the cultural identity of three generations in a Jewish family in American Shepherd, and the author's understanding and construction of cultural identity in his works. This paper consists of six parts. The introduction briefly introduces the life and creation experience of Ross, combs the domestic and foreign studies of Ross, and summarizes the definition of cultural identity as the theoretical basis of this paper. The first chapter analyzes the change of three generations' cultural identity in a Jewish family. The second, third and fourth chapters explain the two ways, the historical and social reasons and the result of the change of the cultural identity of the three generations of Jews in this paper. Through analysis and research, the author thinks that Philip Ross shows the changing process of American identity and Jewish identity through different characters. Jewish identity in the United States is not fixed, their cultural identity is often affected by the social and historical background.
