乔伊斯的《都柏林人》：过渡仪式视角下的解读

【摘要】：《都柏林人》写于1904-1907年,记录了乔伊斯对都柏林生活所做的一生的探索。他本人把这部系列小说看成是为爱尔兰写的一部“精神史”。国内外学者对这部作品进行了详尽入微的解读和研究。本论文尝试利用人类学过渡仪式理论来分析小说情节,以求为更全面理解这部系列小说另辟一个全新的视角。 《都柏林人》这部系列小说基本是按照主人公的年龄阶段来安排的。依据仪式理论,人会在不同的年龄阶段经历不同的过渡仪式：在青少年阶段结束时,经历成年仪式；在青年阶段,经历结婚仪式；在成年阶段,经历长辈仪式或祖辈仪式。也就是说,这部表现人生各个阶段的系列小说理应涉及上述各种过渡仪式。但事实并非如此。这些小说所呈现的,更多是过渡仪式的中止、扭曲或缺席。本论文便是对上述现象的分析。 本论文由七部分组成。第一章首先简要介绍詹姆斯·乔伊斯及其作品《都柏林人》,接着对前人关于《都柏林人》的评论进行评述,然后介绍本论文的分析方法。第二章,第三章和第四章分别分析《都柏林人》表现童年的篇什中过渡仪式的中止,表现青年篇什中过渡仪式的扭曲和表现成年篇什中过渡仪式的缺席。第五章分析过渡仪式中止,扭曲和缺席的原因。第六章分析《都柏林人》中唯一一篇过渡仪式顺利完成的短篇小说《死者》,认为乔伊斯借过波仪式的成功实现,表现了整个爱尔兰社会走出精神瘫痪,实现重生的希望。第七章是对论文的概括,指出利用过渡仪式分析作品对作品主题的揭东作用。同时,从过渡仪式来看,《都柏林人》不仅表现了众多爱尔兰人个体的日常生活经历,同时也表现了整个爱尔兰社会的演变过程。
[Abstract]:Dubliners, written in 1904-1907, recorded Joyce's life-long exploration of Dublin life. He himself regarded the series as a spiritual history for Ireland. The domestic and foreign scholars have carried on the detailed interpretation and the research to this work. This paper attempts to use the anthropological transition ceremony theory to analyze the plot of the novel in order to provide a new angle of view for a more comprehensive understanding of this series of novels. This series of novels is basically arranged according to the age of the protagonist. According to the theory of rituals, people will experience different transitional rituals at different ages: at the end of adolescence, at the end of adulthood; at youth, through marriage rituals; and in adulthood, through elder or ancestral rituals. In other words, this series of novels, which represents all stages of life, should involve the above-mentioned transitional rituals. But this is not the case. These novels present more of the suspension, distortion or absence of transitional rituals. This paper is the analysis of the above phenomenon. This paper consists of seven parts. The first chapter gives a brief introduction to James Joyce and his work the Dubliners, then reviews the predecessors' comments on Dubliners, and then introduces the analytical methods of this thesis. The second chapter, the third chapter and the fourth chapter respectively analyze the discontinuance of the transitional ceremony, the distortion of the transitional ceremony in the youth and the absence of the transitional ceremony in the adult text. Chapter V analyzes the reasons for the suspension, distortion and absence of the transitional ceremony. The sixth chapter analyzes the only short story, "the Dead", which is successfully completed by the transitional ceremony in Dublin, and thinks that Joyce's successful realization of the wave ceremony shows the hope that the whole Irish society has stepped out of mental paralysis and realized the hope of rebirth. The seventh chapter is a summary of the thesis, pointing out that the use of transitional rituals to analyze the role of the work on the theme of the work. At the same time, from the perspective of the transitional ceremony, Dublin not only shows the daily life experience of many Irish individuals, but also shows the evolution of Irish society as a whole.
