从目的论角度看庞德翻译《神州集》的策略

艾兹拉·庞德是美国著名的诗人、诗歌评论家和意象派诗歌的主要代表。1912年,他在美国东方研究专家厄内斯特?费诺罗萨遗稿的基础上选译了十九首中国古诗,并于1915年出版了译诗集《神州集》。自其发行以来,众说纷纭,褒贬不一。一些评论家十分推崇称赞庞德的创造性翻译和《神州集》浓郁的异域特色,而另一些评论家则一味指责其文字语法上的错误。本文将运用汉斯·弗美尔的目的论原理重新分析《神州集》的翻译策略及其翻译得失。目的论认为,译本的预期目的决定翻译的方法和策略。为实现翻译要求,翻译者有权利并应有能力选择翻译对象及翻译策略,进而译出符合翻译要求的译本。在评价译本得失的时候,传统的语言对等已经不再是翻译批评的唯一标准。翻译批评应拓展其范围,从更广泛的角度来评判翻译得失。因此,本文认为《神州集》的翻译虽然有其局限性,但总体上是成功的,因为它很好地实现了庞德的诗歌翻译主张,得到了西方读者的认可,并对译入语文化产生了巨大的影响。所以,客观地评价《神州集》,我们还是应该予以肯定。
