论礼貌原则在英语电子商务邮件中的应用

【摘要】:礼貌作为人们成功交际的一种重要手段,自上世纪七十年代以来,礼貌现象就引起了各个领域学者的普遍关注,语言学家纷纷针对礼貌现象提出各种理论,其中影响最大的属利奇的礼貌原则和列文森的面子保全论。英文商务电子邮件作为外贸交际的重要手段,对交易的达成有着至关重要的影响。因此,在商务交际过程中,信息撰写人除了要熟练掌握相关语言表达外,如何巧妙地运用礼貌策略将信息以得体的方式传达给对方就成为信息撰写人首要考虑的问题。本文以利奇的礼貌原则与布朗和列文森的面子保全论为理论研究框架,将英文商务电子邮件作为研究载体,主要以例证法探讨了礼貌现象如何在不同类型的英文商务邮件中得到体现并发现相应的规律。本文结合英语商务邮件的特点和在外贸交易不同阶段的作用来将其分为四大类:建立贸易关系类邮件、业务洽谈类邮件、业务成交类邮件和投诉与索赔类邮件,并从词、句和篇的层面对以上四类邮件的礼貌现象进行描述性分析。通过研究发现人们为了实现成功的交际,在撰写邮件时均会针对不同的主题采取不同的礼貌策略去规约词的选择、句型的运用及篇章的布局,而这些礼貌策略之间既有共同点也存在着差异。本研究有助于人们在撰写邮件时更好地将礼貌策略运用到言语交际中,促进交际的成功实现,同时也望该研究能对广大外贸从业者和英语语言学习者提供一定的理论参考和实践指导。
[Abstract]:Politeness is an important means of successful communication. Since the 1970s, politeness has attracted the attention of scholars in various fields. Linguists have put forward various theories on politeness. Among them, Leech's politeness principle and Levinson's face-saving theory are the most influential ones. As an important means of foreign trade communication, English business email has a vital influence on the conclusion of transactions. Therefore, in the process of business communication, In addition to mastering the relevant language, the information writer, How to use politeness strategy skillfully to convey information to the other party in a proper way becomes the primary consideration of the information writers. This paper takes Leech's politeness principle and Brown's and Levinson's face saving theory as the theoretical framework. Take English business email as the research carrier, This paper mainly discusses how the politeness phenomenon is embodied in different types of English business mail and finds out the corresponding rules. This paper combines the characteristics of English business mail and its role in different stages of foreign trade transactions. It is divided into four categories: establishing trade relations type mail, This paper analyzes the politeness phenomena of the above four kinds of mail from the aspects of words, sentences and articles, and finds out that people want to achieve successful communication in order to achieve the successful communication, by means of business negotiation type mail, business transaction type mail and complaint and claim type mail. In writing emails, different politeness strategies are adopted for different topics to regulate the choice of words, the use of sentence patterns and the layout of the text. These politeness strategies have both similarities and differences. This study is helpful for people to better apply politeness strategies to verbal communication in order to promote the successful realization of communication. At the same time, it is hoped that this study can provide some theoretical and practical guidance for foreign trade practitioners and English language learners.
