[Abstract]:UCSB, University of California, Santa Barbara, is exploring ways to reduce the current low cost and abundance of methane to clean and combustible hydrogen, while also preventing the generation of greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. Its report, Catalytic melting Metals for the Direct conversion of methane to hydrogen and separable carbon, is published in the journal Science. Steam methane reforming (SMR) is the most common commercial process for hydrogen production.
