Prioritized Foreign Language Adoption from an International

一个国家外语课程的设置与安排不是简单地排列组合。经济依赖、历史纽带、政治关系、文化影响和全球事件等都是外语课程安排的影响因素。尽管所有因素在外语优先次序方面都具有影响力,但每一个因素本身的影响程度都取决于国家间的关系。例如,几十年前,日本曾经是韩国最大的贸易伙伴,但学习日语的人数在韩国并不占据首要地位。然而随着韩国与中国的贸易往来,学习中文的人数在迅速增长。尽管中文在韩国占据一定地位,但由于美国自身的政治与全球霸主身份在韩国有着权威的地位,使得中文从未超过英文在韩国的优先地位。因此,对一个国家的外语课程的分析,不仅是一种跟踪该国与其他国家国际关系变化的手段,也是一种了解该国公民对外国更深层次认知的手段。
