唐五代“土团”问题考论

【摘要】："土团",作为中唐以降地方团练兵的一种,因部分地区兵力不足而成为其兵役的实际承担者,它们主要通过政府依户征集而来,属于国家无需供养的地方民兵,其人数往往并不固定,多存在于晚唐的南方地区。起初,"土团"虽为地方兵力重要的补充来源,但只是作为辅助的军力参与戡乱。随着晚唐中央对地方逐渐失去控制,其统领者开始由朝廷的命官转化为地方豪强,"土团"也开始由国家遏制地方动乱的重要支柱,蜕变为支持割据、颠覆帝国的重要帮凶。到五代时期,"土团"对地方社会影响更甚,尤其在南方地区事实上成为取代旧势力,建立新割据的军力基础与推动力量。
