[Abstract]:The Yu-Xiang-Gui Battle in the late period of the Anti-Japanese War was a large-scale war in China after the Japanese army changed from strategic attack to strategic defensive situation. As a result of the war, the Chinese army retreated sharply on the frontal battlefield. While the overall situation of the world's anti-fascist war has improved and the major allies have been victorious, the situation of large-scale debacle in the Chinese battlefield is indeed out of step with each other. The reasons are generally considered to be due to the corruption of the Kuomintang army and the low combat effectiveness. This can certainly explain its failure in one aspect, but from a comprehensive perspective, at least one question cannot be explained. Why didn't the Japanese army concentrate on attacking Chongqing? If the Kuomintang forces were so vulnerable, Chongqing would also be readily available, given the operational strength put in by the Japanese army at that time. After all, it would be much more useful to destroy China than to open up the mainland's communications lines. Therefore, it is not comprehensive to attribute the defeat of Henan, Hunan and Guangxi to the corruption of Kuomintang army, and it should be the common result of many factors.
