晚清榜眼公使李盛铎驻外事迹述论

【摘要】：李盛铎出身诗书传家的仕宦门第,光绪己丑,高中榜眼,长年供职翰苑台馆,以此而致显达。他洋务能力、外事素养较为薄弱,但因善于逢迎、巧于趋避而数得枢臣举荐,两度衔命出使,常驻日、比。盛铎向来以藏书家、政治家的身份广为人知,而其作为外交家取得的成就亦颇为值得称道,虽说并非精明强干、声誉隆重的外交良才,尚称公忠体国、不辱使命的守成之士。其良苦用心、爱国热忱,值得肯定与显扬。
