中西之间:清末民初苏州地区士绅家庭教育转型研究

[Abstract]:In the modern social changes, family education has realized the transformation from traditional to modern. In previous studies, no special attention has been paid to the importance and transformation of family education, especially gentry family education, and not much attention has been paid to how gentry families respond to the cultural collision between China and the West and how to choose between Chinese and Western cultures. Suzhou traditional gentry family education is guided by imperial examination, attaches importance to reading and examination, encourages doing good, and emphasizes self-cultivation. This kind of traditional family education has some problems, such as the status of parents and children is unequal, the content of education is relatively narrow, and it is easy to produce foolish filial piety behavior and so on. With the influx of western learning and the abolition of imperial examination, different levels of gentry families have different attitudes towards Chinese and Western cultures for different considerations. Generally speaking, they face three choices, either stick to tradition, or completely westernize, or between the two. For the third case, there are three tendencies: middle school or western learning, or both. Taking Xu Zhaowei and Liu Yazi as examples, this paper investigates their family education by means of word frequency analysis and literature interpretation, and tries to enrich the multi-level phase of the transformation of gentry family education in the south of the Yangtze River, taking Xu Zhaowei and Liu Yazi as examples. Xu Zhaowei and Liu Yazi have many similarities in their early experiences. However, different growth environment and life experience make their family education show two different ways of transformation.
