[Abstract]:In the 15th and 16th centuries, images depicting popular folk Buddhist stories were circulated within the Ming court. The manuscripts of the illustration book "Mou Lian Bao Scroll" and the mural of Dahui Temple, which depicts the story of Princess Miaoshan, were two representative examples of such Buddhist stories. They were customized by imperial concubines in orthodox years and eunuchs in Zhengde years. These two objects are intertwined by religious beliefs, visual images, written texts and oral performances, but their actual functions are very complex. With more illustrations, the manuscript is not only a script for oral singing, but also helpful for educational and recreational reading. The mural of Dahui Temple, on the other hand, is a praying painting. Its original creation is "Xiangshan Treasure Scroll", which is also a performance script of Baowuxuan. However, it is very likely that the Dahui Temple murals are not used for Buddhist enlightenment. But to achieve the eunuchs and their families.
