印刷术与文、白之争——白话文运动的媒介学分析

【摘要】：文言文、白话文是两种在中国古代并存发展、互相竞争的书面语体系,其中文言文占据了数千年的主导地位,直到晚清的白话文运动后,其地位才被白话文所取代。符号体系在一定程度上被传播技术所决定,文言文与雕版印刷术相适应,白话文与机械活字印刷术相适应。雕版印刷术的有限的传播能力和技术支持了文言文占据数千年的正统地位,而晚清以来机械活字印刷术拥有强大的生产能力,它要求有广泛的读者、频繁更新的内容、广阔的市场与之相适应,借助白话文运动这样一种剧烈的、范围广泛的社会运动,机械活字印刷术获得了大批量生产所必需的读者群和市场,并取代了雕版印刷术的主导地位。相应地,白话文也取代了文言文。这种社会运动、传播技术、符号体系
[Abstract]:Classical Chinese, vernacular Chinese, is a kind of written language system that coexisted and developed in ancient China, in which classical Chinese occupied a dominant position for thousands of years, until the late Qing Dynasty vernacular movement, its status was replaced by vernacular. The symbol system is determined to some extent by communication technology, classical Chinese and engraving printing, vernacular Chinese and mechanical moving-type printing. The limited dissemination ability and technology of woodblock printing supported the orthodox position of classical Chinese for thousands of years. Since the late Qing Dynasty, mechanical movable typography has a strong production capacity, and it requires a wide range of readers and frequently updated content. The broad market adapted to it, with the help of the vernacular movement such a violent, wide range of social movements, mechanical moving-type printing obtained the necessary readership and market for mass production, and replaced the dominant position of engraving printing.
