《纽约时报书评》的体裁分析

【摘要】: 中国与英语国家的交流在过去的几十年中的得到了日益加强。越来越多的英语出版物被引进到国内。与此同时,很多国内的畅销书也在国外得以出版。书评,成为一种介绍与挑选书籍的重要途径。但是,针对书评的研究主要集中在技术与学术书籍领域,如,英汉语言学期刊书评体裁分析。而《纽约时报书评》,更专注于文学出版物,在文学与知识界具有一定的权威性。对《纽约时报书评》进行的研究将有助于确立这种体裁的宏观结构与微观语言策略。同时该研究对于在专门用途英语教学中书评的写作和阅读教学也有一定的指导意义。 本文的理论框架由两部分构成:首先,宏观分析中的语步分析主要基于Swales和Bhatia的理论。Swales称之为的“语步”是指将文本分成重点有所不同的若干部分,对每一部分进行分析,确立代表着语篇体裁的语步模式。Bhatia的七步骤的语篇分析模式,着眼于对每个语步进行综合分析,成为本文进行具体语步分析的理论依据。其次,微观语言策略分析的理论框架主要有语法,词汇,文字版面三个方面。语法分析主要依据于韩礼德的元功能理论。本文通过及物性,语气,主位分析,对《纽约时报书评》的三个元功能:概念功能,人际功能和语篇功能进行了分析。词汇分析层面主要依据词汇密度理论和词源理论。对书评进行文体学的文字版面分析,主要依据了功能文体学理论。 按照各种体裁在《纽约时报书评》中所占的比例,以及研究者的研究兴趣,数据库由30篇选自于纽约时报网站的书评组成,包括18篇非虚构类作品和12篇虚构类作品的书评。对数据的分析分两个阶段进行,第一阶段主要对各书评的语步进行统计,概括并描述出构成《纽约时报书评》的体裁结构,并明确了限制性语步与选择性语步。第二阶段,研究者主要通过对样本进行元功能分析和其他文体特征分析,呈现的《纽约时报书评》的微观语言策略。 通过基于Bhatia模式的宏观结构分析,研究者确立了由9个语步构成的《纽约时报书评》基本结构,并详细呈现了9个语步及它们的步骤的功能。按照在数据库中各个语步出现的频率,语步四被确定为选择性语步,其他均为限制性语步。 通过微观语言策略的分析,在语法层面,研究者主要分析了《纽约时报书评》在及物性、语气、主位方面的特征。词汇方面进行的词汇密度和词源分析都证明了《纽约时报书评》是一种正式的文体。通过文字版面层面的分析,发现了插图与符号在某些语步中的显著性。根据宏观与微观分析的研究发现,论文最后总结了《纽约时报书评》的情境语境。基于研究的发现,研究者提出了教学建议并指出了研究的局限。
[Abstract]:Exchanges between China and English-speaking countries have been increasing over the past few decades. More and more English-language publications have been introduced into the country. At the same time, many domestic best-selling books have also been published abroad. It has become an important way to introduce and select books. However, the research on book reviews mainly focuses on technical and academic books, such as the genre analysis of book reviews in English and Chinese linguistics journals, while the New York Times Book Review focuses more on literary publications. The study of the New York Times Book Review will help to establish the macro-structure and micro-linguistic strategies of this genre. At the same time, the study will be useful in the teaching of ESP. The writing and reading teaching of book review also has certain guiding significance. The theoretical framework of this paper is composed of two parts: firstly, the step analysis in macro analysis is mainly based on the theory of Swales and Bhatia, which means that the text is divided into several parts with different emphases, and each part is analyzed. The establishment of a seven-step discourse analysis model, which represents the genre of discourse. Bhatia, focuses on the comprehensive analysis of each step, which is the theoretical basis for the specific step analysis in this paper. The theoretical framework of micro-linguistic strategy analysis mainly includes three aspects: grammar, vocabulary and text layout. Grammar analysis is mainly based on Halliday's meta-functional theory. This paper analyzes the three metafunctions of New York Times Book Review: conceptual function, interpersonal function and textual function. Lexical analysis is based on lexical density theory and etymology theory. Mainly based on the functional stylistic theory. According to the proportion of genres in the New York Times Book Review, and the researchers' interest, the database consists of 30 book reviews selected from the New York Times website. The analysis of the data is divided into two stages. In the first stage, the steps of each book review are statistically analyzed, and the genre structure of the New York Times Book Review is summarized and described. In the second stage, the researchers mainly analyze the metafunctions and other stylistic features of the samples and present the microscopic linguistic strategies of the New York Times Book Review. Based on the macro structure analysis based on Bhatia model, the researchers established the basic structure of the New York Times Book Review, which consists of nine language steps. According to the frequency of each step in the database, step 4 is determined as selective step, and the others are restrictive steps. Through the analysis of microcosmic language strategies, at the grammatical level, the researchers mainly analyze the transitivity and mood of the New York Times Book Review. Thematic features, lexical density and etymological analysis prove that the New York Times Book Review is a formal style. The significance of illustrations and symbols in some language steps is found. Based on the findings of macro and micro analysis, the paper concludes the contextual context of New York Times Book Review. The researcher put forward the teaching suggestion and pointed out the limitation of the research.
