中美应用语言学硕士论文中报道动词的语用对比研究

【摘要】:本文旨在研究中国作者和英语母语者的应用语言学硕士论文中报道动词使用背后的文化差异。在Thomas and Hawes (1997)对报道动词分类的基础上,本文从宏观和微观的角度对20篇中国学生撰写的硕士论文和20篇美国和加拿大学生撰写的论文中报道动词的章节分布、语意分类和时态等方面进行比较。结果表明,报道动词在文献综述部分出现频率最高,这与文献综述部分主要综述前人研究,需要大量使用引用密切相关。并且中国作者在论文中使用报道动词的频率要高于母语作者,而在报道动词使用的多样性上,中国作者使用报道动词的种类远低于母语作者。此外,和母语作者相比较,中国作者更多使用研究类和思维类报道动词,却更少使用语篇类报道动词。在报道动词的时态选择上,一般现在时在两个语料库出现的频率均比较高,但中国作者更倾向使用一般过去时。基于上述结果,本研究为中国作者和英语母语作者学术写作中报道动词的使用差异提供文化背景上的分析,并试图为学术论文写作教学提供一种可能的思路。后续研究可以侧重对不同文体或不同英文水平的作者文章中报道动词的研究,报道动词种类和主语的关联,以及报道名词和报道动词的对比研究。
[Abstract]:The purpose of this paper is to study the cultural differences behind the reporting of verb use in the Master of Applied Linguistics thesis of Chinese authors and native English speakers. This paper compares 20 master's thesis written by Chinese students with 20 papers written by American and Canadian students from macroscopic and microscopic perspectives in terms of chapter distribution, semantic classification and tenses of verbs. The reporting verbs appear most frequently in the literature review part, which is closely related to the literature review part, which mainly reviews the previous studies and needs a large number of citations. Moreover, the Chinese authors use the reporting verbs more frequently than the native authors. In terms of the diversity of the use of reporting verbs, the types of reporting verbs used by Chinese writers are far lower than those of native speakers. In addition, Chinese writers use more research and thought reporting verbs than native speakers. In the tense selection of the reporting verbs, the present tense appears more frequently in both corpus, but the Chinese authors prefer to use the general past tense. This study provides a cultural background analysis of the differences in the use of reported verbs in academic writing between Chinese and native English-speaking authors. It also tries to provide a possible way of thinking for the teaching of academic thesis writing. The follow-up study can focus on the study of the reported verbs in different styles and different English levels, and the relationship between the types of verbs and the subject. And a contrastive study of reporting nouns and reporting verbs.
