英语硕士论文文献综述部分转述动词使用的语料库研究

【摘要】:众所周知,转述在学术语篇,尤其是文献综述部分,发挥着极其重要的作用。在学术语篇中,论述应清楚、详尽,并能有力地展现学术主张。通过引述他人的观点,我们可以弄清楚当前研究的背景,找出在此之前,人们都做了哪些相关研究,从而为自己的立场寻求支持,增强论述的说服力。或是指出先前研究工作的不足之处,进而为自己的研究奠定广泛的、可靠的基础。 转述在学术语篇中的重要性,引起了语言学家的广泛关注。他们对转述动词在学术语篇中的使用情况进行了大量的研究,有些研究关注的是转述在英语学习者中的使用情况,如英语专业本科生和硕士研究生,而有些则着重分析其在英语本族语者中的使用情况,如英语国家的大学本科生和语言学家。但是不难发现,这些研究大都选取整篇论文,或是引言部分和总结部分为研究对象,鲜少有研究者关注文献综述部分转述动词的分布情况。因此,在目的论和转述语相关理论的指导下,本研究选取中国英语专业学生硕士论文中的文献综述部分作为其分析文本,并将其与外国作家所写的学术论文进行对比分析。 鉴于此,作者从中国知网上随机选取了35篇硕士论文,并节选其文献综述部分建成观察语料库,这些论文都是太原理工大学外国语学院外国语言学及应用语言学专业研究生所写。同时,还从Elsevier Science Direct下载了200篇英语本族语者写的学术论文,同样节选文献综述部分建成参照语料库,这些论文都来自国际知名英语期刊,如English for Specific Purposes, Teaching and Teacher Education, Journal of English for Academic Purposes, Journal of Second Language Writing。此外,本研究所选论文都是有关外语教学的。 通过对两个语料库的对比分析,本研究旨在回答下面两个问题: 1)英语专业研究生所写的学位论文中,转述动词,转述形式和转述动词的时态各有什么特点? 2)中国学生和英语本族语者在转述动词的使用方面存在哪些异同? 研究结果表明,在转述时,为了回顾相关文献,对先前的研究做出评价性总结并将前人的研究与自己的研究相结合,中国学生和本族语者都使用了大量的转述动词和不同的转述形式,同时,在两个语料库中转述动词的时态也具有多样性。但是双方在转述语的具体使用方面存在着许多异同:1)转述动词在观察语料库和参照语料库中分别占总字数的1.42%和1.46%,这表明中国学生已经意识到了转述的重要性;2)在转述中,中国学生更倾向于选择语篇动词和研究动词,较少选择认知动词:3)一些语篇动词在两个语料库中的使用情况很不相同,例如:hold, conclude, describe在硕士论文中出现的频率较高,而本族语者则更多选择suggest, argue, note;4)描述研究过程的研究动词更多地出现在硕士论文中,这说明中国学生更加关注前人所做的研究工作;5)虽然认知动词在两组学术语篇中都是使用最少的,但其在两个语料库中的使用情况很不相同;6)与本族语者相比,中国学生使用较多的积极动词,而消极动词的使用频率则较低;7)在转述形式方面,中国学生的转述方式比较单一,他们更多地选择嵌入式的转述方式,并且多以被转述者作为句子的主语;8)在英语专业学生所写的论文中,转述动词多以一般过去式的形式出现。 基于以上研究结果,作者对英语学术论文写作教学提出了四点建议:提高学生对学术论文写作的认识;提高学生的转述意识,讲解转述的相关知识;提供大量的转述动词并举例,同时加强关于转述的写作练习;鼓励学生在平时的学习中主动积累一些转述动词和转述方式。
[Abstract]:It is well known that the transfer plays a very important role in the academic discourse, especially in the literature review. In the academic discourse, the discussion should be clear, detailed, and able to present the academic ideas. By quoting other people's point of view, we can find out the background of the current research, and find out which relevant research has been done before, so as to seek support for their position and to enhance the argument of the discussion. Or point out the shortcomings of previous research work, thus laying a broad and reliable foundation for his research. The importance of the restatement in the discourse of the academic language has brought about a wide range of linguists. Pay attention to. They have studied the use of the verb in the academic discourse, and some of them are concerned about the use of the said verb in the English learners, such as the English major and the master's postgraduates, while others focus on the use of them in the English native language. a case, such as a college student and a language in an English country. But it's not hard to find that most of these studies have selected the whole paper, or the introduction part and the summary part are the research objects, and few researchers are concerned about the distribution of the verb in the literature review part Therefore, under the guidance of the theory of teleology and restatement, this study selected the literature review part of the Chinese English major's master's thesis as its analysis text and compared it with the academic papers written by foreign writers. In view of this, the author randomly selected 35 master's papers from China's knowledge network, and selected its literature review part to build an observation corpus, which is a foreign language and applied linguistics of the Foreign Language Institute of Taiyuan University of Technology. At the same time, 200 English native speakers have been downloaded from Elsevier Science Direct, and the same section of the literature review is a reference corpus, all of which are from international well-known English journals, such as English for Specific Purposers, Tagging and Teacher Education, Journal of English for Academic Purpose, Journal of Second Language Wr in addition, that selecte papers of the institute are relevant Through the comparative analysis of two corpora, the purpose of this study is to Answer the following two questions: 1) In the degree paper written by the graduate student of the English major, the verb, the form of the transfer and the transfer what are the characteristics of the tense of the verb? What are the similarities and differences in the use of the verb? The results of the study show that, in order to review the relevant literature, to review the relevant literature, to make a summary of the previous research and to combine the previous research with its own research, the Chinese students and the native speakers have used a great deal. an amount of restated verb and a different form of rotation, at the same time, in two The verb's tense in the corpus also has diversity. But there are many similarities and differences between the two parties in the specific use of the restated language: 1) The transfer verb accounts for 1.42% and 1.46% of the total number of words in the observation corpus and the reference corpus, which indicates that the Chinese students have the importance of the restatement is realized; in the restatement, Chinese students are more inclined to select the verb and the study verb, and the lower selection of the cognitive verb: 3) The use of some of the adverbial verbs in the two corpora is very different, for example: hold, include, descri have a higher frequency in the master's thesis, and the native speakers more of the study verbs that describe the study process appear in the master's thesis, which means that Chinese students are more concerned about the research work done by the predecessors; Verbs are used in both groups of academic discourse, but their use in two corpora is very different; (6) Chinese students use more positive verbs in comparison with native speakers, while the use frequency of negative verbs is lower; and 7) in the form of transfer On the other hand, Chinese students have a relatively simple way to transfer, and they have more choice of the embedded type of transfer, and many of them as the subject of the sentence; and (8) in the paper written by the English major Based on the results of the above research, the author puts forward four suggestions on the writing teaching of the English academic paper: to improve the students' understanding of the writing of the academic papers, to improve the students' awareness of the writing and to explain the knowledge of the transfer; the provision of a large number of the verbs and examples, while strengthening the writing practice on the transfer; and encouraging the students to be flat.
