谈公立学校与公立学校的区别

Discuss the difference between public and state school

Education is an important basic for a country to raise the level of knowledge and cultivate talents. People go through education to satisfy their curiosity, so enable people from ignorance to through knowledge and skills to achieve value. To create the best education environment has become the primary task of many parents, they act in a responsible to bringing up their children. Parents focus on comparative analysis of public and state schools in the choice of school education in the United Kingdom. Differences of the two types of schools in differences aspects including fees, curriculums, class sizes, college-going rates are identified and evaluated, and solutions on how to choose the suitable school for children.

Before the discussion, public school and state school which are two key two basic types. According to the report of Private School vs. Public School, A traditional public school in England or Wales refers to a fee-paying independent school targeted at children with an age range of 13-18. In a broader sense, it can be equated to a private school. A state school is perceived as a school funded and supported by local government and is open to students without tuition (Diffen, 2015). The most obvious external difference between a public school and a state school lies in funding & fees. In general, public schools have a number of sources of funding, such as the Private Companies’ donation and the tuition fees paid by students will play an important role in maintaining the survival and daily operation. The requirements of each school are not the same. In contrast, students educating in state schools bring little economic burden to their families for the reason that these schools have largely depending on incomes between state funds and taxation.

The admission criteria for these two kinds of schools are also different. In the term public school, the general means that any student who can pay the high fees have access to public schools, regardless of their home locations and religious factors. Without the financial requirement, students who fail to the academic level or other standards are may be opposition. Moreover, except IELTS scores and high school study, students are required to conduct more tests before school taking. In fact, it’s not an easy thing for a student to joy in a public school, and this is especially true for those schools with good reputations. In state school, it must give admission to all children living in the school, and when the special situation happened who have bad behavior. The principle that no kid should be left is according with the policy of education.

Next, there are differences on class size and curriculum. Due to the limitations of teachers' time and energy, schools are often have crowded classrooms, while in schools with higher violence and other bad behaviors; it is a big challenge for school administrators. In contrast, public schools are the better substitute that has classes of smaller sizes and stronger insurance. About the courses between public and state school, the National Curriculum (NC) is applied to many state schools. It is a government-oriented education introduced in the year of 1988, the basis competence that pupils should master in mathematics, language and many other disciplines (Department of Education 2014). In addition, some topics tend to be taboo in class like sexual knowledge. As for public schools, they have more flexible curriculum designs. It is not a necessity for them to follow the NC, they have a wide range of official standards and fewer control. Moreover, they can provide personalized courses to satisfy the special needs of students, such as religious education and art.

The quality of education is also important dimension that can be division from a degree of public school. Actually, a growing number of middle class parents are holding little confidence on the quality of the state school, they believe that sending children to state schools is a strength choice because of they worry about the second-rate teachers and outdated teaching methods. Therefore, they tend to transfer their children to public schools where children are guided with communication to get information and teachers support. For example, some public schools insist that students should be praised and instilled with a commitment to excellence (Hutton 2015). The quality of education has a direct impact on children's performance. It is argued that students in public schools may be more in reading and arithmetic skills compared to that of state students (Grossberg 2014). Besides, public schools seem to have more chances to develop a promising person. There have appeared many president and other celebrities from the well-known public school, For example, Eton College.

From the above analysis, it can be seen that public schools have many advantageous with class size, safety and education quality. Actually, students in a small class can get more attention from teachers, and teachers can discover and correct problems when students for poor academic performance and negative psychology on time, and give quick feedbacks to parents as well. Besides, it is easier to manage and monitor public schools with fewer students, so public schools are safer than state. On the quality of education, public schools are equipment with a variety of personalized courses, first-class teacher resources and new teaching ideas, which is help to the development of students' potential.

However, it cannot be ignored the expensive price of a public school, which the first and most common obstacle for students. Many parents in high economic degree prefer public education and hope that investment can bring more development opportunities for their children. Therefore, there is a public school first impressions are strongest concept, is designed for the upper level families while children from low-income families will hardly be included. Parents’ decisions are not final because there may be another problems coming from public schools. As the above, some public schools have their own standards, and students who don’t achieve requirements will be refused. In state schools, there are lots of outstanding problems, such as overcrowded classes and weak safety measures, then managers and educators in this regard a very important role.

Firstly, the biggest benefit to British is the easy get to education. In other words, state schools make it possible for every British kid to go to school. Civil rights and educational rights are a citizen's can’t absence of survival and development. For the whole society, this is a basis step to reduce wealth gap and maintain social stability. Secondly, the quality education of the state school is improving. It is reported that the state school nowadays has more than 11000 teachers graduated from Oxford or Cambridge, twice as many as the year 2003 (Guardian 2015). The increasing number shows high-quality team of teaching staff in the system. Furthermore, it helps the students to be more admission to the university. Some people may believe that state schools’ students have less admission than public schools, but according to the research shows that the UK in 2015 found that graduates with A-level grades comes from state schools are more likely to achieve better performance in undergraduate studies compared to graduates with the same level from public schools (Garner 2015).

In fact, public schools and state schools have both advantages and disadvantages according to the evaluation. It shouldn’t be thought as public schools are better than state schools. Many state schools just like many public schools which have their own education resources and develop graduates to improve students go to study in good universities in the future. In school choice, parents need have serious and reasonable choice to choose the most suitable school for their children, appropriate to thinking about children’s gift and characteristics as well as the actual conditions of the potential schools.

This paper has made a details comparison between public schools and state schools, and the two systems show differences in funding & fees, entrance standards, class size, curriculum and education quality. Given that both of them have strengths and weaknesses, it’s inadvisable sending children to public schools is always better than state schools. Therefore, parents are recommending making reasonable school choice.
