【摘要】：正民国七年,岁在戊午,夏历三月初四(一九一八年四月十四日),父亲周汝昌出生在天津咸水沽西头的一个大户家庭。他排行第五,乳名曰魁(也作奎)。他出生的这个周家,当初人多族众,分居异爨。他不但是家中幼子,在各房各支中排行十五,都居末位。父亲这一辈,取名"昌"字。祖父初为他选一表字"寿康",取自《诗经》的"俾尔寿而康,俾尔炽而昌。"尔即汝也;后又取"禹言"。父亲觉得"禹言"侧重昌字,与"汝"无联系,而且与清代名人丁汝昌略同,故改用"玉言",取《书经》"玉欲成"玉成女(汝)"之义。友朋戏言:"玉言"者,岂非"石头记"乎?由此看来,他自取名起就"命中注定"诀治红学。
