白睿文的翻译美学与文化担当——以《活着》的英译为例

【摘要】：美国著名汉学家和翻译家白睿文翻译的中国当代文学作品在英语世界引起了很大反响,余华的作品《活着》就是其译作的代表。本文以《活着》的英译本为例,从译者的翻译策略入手,分析白睿文如何在文字和文化间穿梭自如,使其翻译作品既保留原作品的风格,又适应了读者的文化心理。相比"言语交流",白睿文更看重译者的"文化担当",他的翻译作品成为西方读者了解中国文化的又一扇窗。
[Abstract]:The works of contemporary Chinese literature translated by famous American Sinologist and translator Bai Ruiwen have aroused a great reaction in the English-speaking world. Yu Hua's work "alive" is the representative of his translation. This article takes the English translation of "alive" as an example. Starting with the translator's translation strategy, this paper analyzes how Bai Meiwen shuttles freely between text and culture so that his translation works can not only retain the style of the original work. In contrast to "verbal communication", Bai pays more attention to the translator's "cultural responsibility", and his translation works become another window for western readers to understand Chinese culture.
