从语域分析的角度看小说《纯真年代》中对话的汉译

【摘要】： 对话在小说中起着吸引读者,推动情节发展以及揭示人物性格,塑造人物形象的重要作用。小说对话受双方的身份地位,教育,家庭背景,对话内容和目的等因素影响。这些因素都可归属于语域的三个变量。即语场,语旨,语式。语场指实际发生的场景,包括话题,内容、目的等;语式指言语交际的形式,主要可分为书面和口头两类;语旨涉及说话人的角色,身份,地位和相互关系。三个变量共同决定了交际中使用的具体语言情况,即语域。语域在词汇,语法和其他层面都有具体的特征,称为语域标记。本文认为,在小说翻译中,通过观察语域标记,对原文进行语域分析,能够更好地解读原文人物性格特征,理解人物之间相互关系以及把握人物心理和态度的微妙变化等,从而帮助我们通过正确的遣词造句,在译文中建立相应的语域以充分实现小说对话的重要作用。本文撷取了美国重要的现代小说家伊迪丝·华顿的代表作《纯真年代》及其两个中译本进行对比分析。伊迪丝·华顿长于描绘美国十九世纪末二十世纪初纽约上流社会的生活,其文笔流畅,擅长通过丰富的场景描绘,展现人物性格特征和主题风貌。在对原文进行语域分析的基础之上,本文通过观察对比译文中的语域标记,比较分析两个版本在建立语域对等实现小说对话作用方面的长短之处。除验证语域分析用于小说对话翻译研究的可行性和必要性,对译文进行综合判断之外,本文也基于语域分析,在讨论过程中给出了关于翻译策略的一些建议,希能对后来译者有所帮助。
[Abstract]:Dialogue plays an important role in attracting readers, promoting plot development, revealing character and shaping character. These factors all belong to the three variables of the register, namely, the field, the tenor, the style. The field refers to the actual scene, including the topic, the content, the purpose, etc. It can be divided into two categories: written and oral. Tenor refers to the role, identity, status and interrelationship of the speaker. Together, three variables determine the specific language used in communication, that is, register. Register in vocabulary. There are specific features in grammar and other aspects, which are called register markers. This paper argues that in the translation of novels, it is possible to better interpret the character of the original characters by observing the register marks and analyzing the original text. Understanding the interrelationship between the characters and grasping the subtle changes in their psychology and attitude can help us to establish the corresponding register in the translation to fully realize the important role of the novel dialogue through the correct construction of words and sentences. This paper presents a comparative analysis of the masterpiece of Edith Wharton, an important modern American novelist, and its two Chinese translations. Edith Wharton grew up in depicting New York at the end of 19th century and early 20th century. The life of an upper-class society, He is fluent in writing and is good at displaying characters' character and thematic features through rich scene description. Based on the register analysis of the original text, this paper observes and contrasts the register marks in the target text. In addition to verifying the feasibility and necessity of register analysis in the study of novel dialogue translation, the author makes a comprehensive judgment on the translation of the two versions. Based on the register analysis, this paper also gives some suggestions on translation strategies in the course of discussion, hoping that it will be helpful to the later translators.
