节译与改写的交织:《红楼梦》英译史上的一篇轶文

【摘要】：《北华捷报》1883年第860期刊登了一篇题为Chinese School Life的《红楼梦》译文,对《红楼梦》第七回和第九回的部分内容进行了英译。译文以介绍中国学校生活为目的,对《红楼梦》的相关内容进行了节译,并对第九回茗烟闹学堂的故事进行了改写。本文对这篇译文进行了介绍,并从翻译目的和意识形态两个方面分析了译者采取节译和改写的原因。
[Abstract]:A translation of A Dream of Red Mansions, entitled Chinese School Life, was published in No. 860 of the Beihuajie newspaper in 1883, which translated some of the contents of the seventh and ninth chapters of the Dream of Red Mansions into English. The purpose of the translation is to introduce the life of schools in China. The relevant contents of A Dream of Red Mansions are translated and the story of the ninth Ming-yan school is rewritten. The author also analyzes the reasons for the translator's adaptation and adaptation from the perspective of translation purpose and ideology.
