[Abstract]:Both in modern Chinese and modern English, the study of adverbs has always attracted much attention. English and Chinese adverbs are adverbs and adverbs that play a connecting role in complex sentences and discourses, which play a very important role in adverb systems. The research on adverbs at home and abroad is more extensive. However, the comparative study of English and Chinese adverb relevance words, especially English and Chinese adverb relevance words, is still in its infancy and needs to be explored more widely. Based on the nine short stories of Canadian Alice Munro, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2013, and the five novels of Margaret Atwood, the Queen of Literature of Canada, and their Chinese translations, based on the cohesion theory of Halliday and Hassan, Halliday's functional linguistics theory and Harris's discourse analysis theory, this paper adopts quantitative and qualitative analysis methods. This paper classifies English and Chinese adverb related words in their works, and makes a comparative analysis from three angles: syntactic features, semantic relations and textual cohesion. All the analyses are supported by real textual corpus. Through contrastive analysis, we find that English and Chinese adverb relevance words have similarities and differences in syntactic features, semantic relations and textual cohesion. The main findings of this paper are as follows: 1. English and Chinese adverbs can be located at the beginning of the sentence in syntactic position. "- P" ("-" means "adverb relevance word", "P" means "predicate") only appears in the Chinese translation, while "S-PP" ("S" means "subject", "PP" means "preposition phrase") only appears in English. From the semantic point of view, Chinese and English adverb related words can express time, explanation, addition, turning point, result, condition and assertive relationship. In English, the optimal order of occurrence frequency is as follows: the result of adjunctive time assertive interpretation transition condition ("denote" prior to "), while in Chinese, the optimal order of occurrence frequency is as follows: assertive plus combined interpretation time turning result condition. (3) in Chinese, the optimal order of occurrence frequency is as follows: (3) in Chinese, the optimal order of occurrence frequency is as follows: Chinese and English adverb relevance words mainly realize textual cohesion through grammatical cohesion (referential, substitution, omission) and lexical cohesion (repetition, collocation). The purpose and significance of this study is to be helpful to the in-depth study of English and Chinese adverb related words, so that English and Chinese learners have a deeper understanding of adverbs, and at the same time, it also provides a new perspective for readers to read and appreciate literary works.
