莎士比亚作品中的中国人形象——莎剧中“Cataian”汉译的文化考察

【摘要】：George Steevens等莎学专家将莎士比亚作品中的"Cataian"一词与"小偷"和"骗子"等联系起来,这不仅影响了几个世纪以来西方莎学界对中国人形象的负面解读和由此带来的偏见,甚至也导致了中国译者对此词的片面翻译。事实上,无论是基于历史语境对"Cataian"汉译的文化考察,还是基于莎士比亚作品对文本语境进行细致分析,结果都表明部分西方学者将莎士比亚作品中的中国人形象与"小偷"和"骗子"等负面形象联系起来是荒谬的、断章取义的和不符合史实的,乃至不无种族中心论基调,这在新的时代也不利于文化交融和平等对话。
[Abstract]:The term "Cataian" in Shakespeare's works, such as the "Cataian" in Shakespeare's works, is not only affected by the negative interpretation of the Chinese image and the bias brought by the Chinese translator since the centuries, and even the one-sided translation of the word by the Chinese translator. In fact, it is absurd to link the Chinese image of Shakespeare's works with the negative image of the thief and the swindler, whether based on the historical context, and the result shows that some western scholars associate the Chinese image of Shakespeare's works with the negative image of the thief and the swindler.
