翻译社会学视角下《长恨歌》的英译本研究

随着中国经济的飞速发展,增强中国文化软实力的需要日渐增强。为了实现这个目标,越来越多的中国当代文学作品的英文版问世,然而,很多译作在英语世界的接受度不是很高。鉴于这个现象,对在英语读者中接受度相对较好的译作进行研究能给我们提供一些启示。美国汉学家白睿文所译长篇小说《长恨歌》在英语读者中颇受好评,本研究从翻译社会学的角度进行分析,将这部译作放在宏观社会环境中进行研究,试图揭示哪些社会因素促成了其成功。本研究使用在翻译研究中采用最为普遍的社会学理论——右迪厄的社会学理论,系统分析《长恨歌》翻译所处的场域、涉及到的资本及白睿文的惯习,并在此基础上进一步探讨这三者如何相互作用,共同影响白睿文的文本选择、翻译策略及译本出版。研究发现,第一,《长恨歌》是在对译者和译本不利的文化和翻译场域中翻译的;第二,资本,尤其是原作的象征资本及白睿文的文化和象征资本赋予他更大权力,利于他做出各种决策;第三,在白睿文的教育和翻译经历中,他形成了自己独特的惯习,即重视翻译中的文学价值再现和忠实性与可读性的平衡;第四,场域、资本和白睿文的惯习相互作用,对《长恨歌》的翻译共同产生影响。其中,丰厚的资本和白睿文的惯习促使...
