姚乃强《红字》中译本的叙事聚焦和引语转换研究

纳撒尼尔·霍桑被誉为美国19世纪最伟大的浪漫主义小说家,其小说《红字》于1850年首次出版,因其超越传统小说风格所带来的社会影响力和独具匠心的叙述技巧使该作品在西方文坛的地位愈久弥新,西方众多学者和评论家对其研究源源不竭。但在国内,直到十九世纪三十年代才出现第一个《红字》中译本。国内对《红字》的翻译研究大多停留在语言学、诗学、功能对等和目的论等方面。也有少部分论文、期刊曾探讨过《红字》的叙事特点,但从叙事学角度探讨《红字》中译本的文章却屈指可数。叙事学是一门年轻却影响深远的学科。通常,国内将叙事学理论运用于文学作品尤其是小说的批评研究中,将之应用于文学翻译的研究却不多见。小说作为文学作品的一员有很强的叙事特征,主要体现在其叙事结构和叙事技巧上。霍桑的《红字》正是以其多元化的叙事视角和丰富的引语转换来呈现其精湛的叙事风格。因此,在翻译《红字》时,译者除了要抓住原作与译作的语言差异,更需着重把握原作叙事特点以充分体现原作者在创作时对语言形式的把握及其叙事意图。译者若是忽略这两点,原作的文学和艺术价值便难以在译文中保留和再现。本文以姚乃强译的《红字》为研究文本,选取具有代表性的例子,采用对比...
