《半身》和《别名格雷斯》中的女性哥特特质

艾伦·莫尔斯撰写的《文学女性》将女性主义引入了哥特文学领域,并形成了一种崭新的文学批评流派,称为女性哥特主义,性别研究的一个重大突破。本文将从女性哥特主义的视角来解读莎拉·沃特斯的《半身》和玛格丽特·阿特伍德的《别名格雷斯》。尽管两位作家来自不同的国家,但她们都把小说设定在19世纪,并同时采用了女性哥特文学体裁。英国当代作家莎拉·沃特斯以三本女同性恋小说而闻名,这三部女同性恋小说被誉为“维多利亚三部曲”。她的第二部小说《半身》讲述了两个女同性恋主人公之间的故事,获得了多个奖项。加拿大当代作家玛格丽特·阿特伍德一直从事于女性主义创作,她的小说《别名格雷斯》重现了历史上一个著名的谋杀案。在细读《半身》和《别名格雷斯》的基础上,本论文将研究两部小说共有的女性哥特元素,并探讨两位作家在父权制背景下运用它们的目的。本论文由五个部分组成。第一部分介绍女性哥特主义,即论文的理论基础。第二部分将介绍这两部小说和两位作家。第三部分分析两部小说中的三种女性哥特元素:密室、监狱、疯人院以及牢房等阴暗的环境设定。它们象征着父权制对“疯癫”女性的惩罚,透露了女性的绝望;超自然现象的描写,鬼魂、招魂说和催眠主义反...
