Ethical and Practical Justification of Vegetarianism in West

素食主义出现在西方文化的最初始阶段。古代素食主义者基于伦理性缘由要求人们避免肉食。当时素食主义被少数人接受和践行,素食主义者属于少数人群。然而,在当代素食主义在西方人中形成一种新时尚。来自诸如环境保护和营养学等其他领域的更多的理论和思想也支持素食主义思想。自1970年环境保护运动开始以来,提倡素食主义的作者们更多地从环保角度为素食主义辩护。由于在西方国家健康状况的恶化和医疗费用的上涨,素食提倡者开始指出素食对健康的有利之处。素食主义由伦理性的关怀转变为科学实践性的。本论文的重点是分析这种转变的原因。本论文研究西方素食主义的演变。在西方历史中,很多作家对素食主义的发展做出了贡献。这些作家包括古代哲学家毕达哥拉斯、波菲力等,现代作家梭罗、索尔特、辛格和坎贝尔等。通过研究这些作家的作品和历史背景,本论文将说明西方素食主义从伦理性向实践性演变的原因。本论文有助于帮助更好理解西方文化。
