【摘要】：帕威尔教授从他兼具法国和美国的学术教育背景出发,一方面给出了他对"强制阐释"概念的赞同、理解和判定,另一方面也提出他的补充意见与进一步的学科期待。本文分三部分内容,首先是确认"强制阐释"核心概念下的场外征用、主观预设和反序认知等具体问题的存在;然后指出强制阐释现象并非当代独有,而是历史性地存在于19世纪初以来的西方文学研究里——从黑格尔时代的"时代精神"到实证主义的"社会环境",再到结构主义的"叙事学"和当代的文化批评,都有以概念掩盖作品的多样性事实的特点;最后,帕威尔指出,当代的强制阐释现象体现了强烈的美国文化的特点,也暴露了美国文学教育的问题,但他希望文学研究在纠偏的同时,能够保持住批评的宽度和活力。
