[Abstract]:American female writer Barbara Kintholfohn's award-winning novel, the Drug-Wood Bible, tells of a white American Baptist priest, Nathan Price, who brought his wife and four daughters to the war-torn African Congo. The story of the "ignorant" soul who lives in this wilderness with religious faith, but as a crude executor of God's will, Nathan ignores the feelings of his wife and daughter, his foreign customs, Not only did they fail to save the souls of the indigenous people, but they also failed to recover their families from the perilous political turmoil. The war and death inflicted untold trauma on the family, during which its youngest daughter died in Congo. The rest of the family is separated and Nathan is insane, dying at the hands of the "fool" he is trying to redeem. The family's tragedy confirms that Nathan's patriarchy and hegemony are at the centre of the book's critique. This paper attempts to analyze the theory of "cognitive violence" by American post-colonial critic Gaia Terry Chakrabard Spiewalker 1942-1942. The main character of the Bible, Nathan Price, is under imperialism. The harm caused by double might-- patriarchal power and hegemony-to women and colonies, the representatives of the two major minority utterances, In the novel, the oppressed women of the Price family and the African Congo under the iron hoofs of the colonists share the same conditions, from being squeezed at the beginning to awakening on the way. At the end of the revolt, the two had a startling fate. Based on Spivak's theory, this paper first analyzes the oppression of women under patriarchal power and colonial colonists, tries to dig through the "cognitive violence" throughout, and finds the similarities between the two cultural hegemony. This paper probes into the implementation of "cognitive violence" in the feminist and post-colonial context as well as the deep reasons behind it, and reveals the repulsion and repression of "cognitive violence" in the novel. In this way, it tries to overthrow its legitimacy in the western cultural thinking mode.
