[Abstract]:Color is an important part of human life experience. Color cognition has become an important aspect of conceptual metaphor in cognitive linguistics. At present, there have been a lot of contrastive studies on color metaphors in English and Chinese, but the contrastive studies of color words and color metaphors are mostly confined to the construction and semantic analysis of color metaphors in ordinary texts. The universal characteristics and literary value of color metaphor in literary works are still a new field. At present, there are many researches on color metaphors in the novels of Lu Xun, Joyce and Fitzgerald. Among all the studies, the comparison between Lu Xun's novels and Joyce's novels is also a hot topic. Although there are some findings in the study of color metaphor, the cross-cultural comparative study on color metaphor and its literary value in Lu Xun's and Joyce's novels is a topic to be further explored. This paper uses cognitive metaphor and color prototype theory to analyze the color metaphor and its literary value in Lu Xun and Joyce the Dubliners. This paper discusses the generality and difference of color metaphors in English and Chinese literature by means of statistics and examples, and explores the cognitive, cultural and individual backgrounds and causes of similarities and differences. This paper consists of six parts, including introduction, four chapters of the text and a summary. The introduction summarizes the current situation of the research on color metaphor in the two works at home and abroad, briefly introduces the research background, the color cognitive metaphor and the color prototype theory, and expounds the purpose of the research and the problems to be solved. The first chapter discusses the reasons why the text is compared between the cry and the Dubliners. Relevant studies at home and abroad show that the two works have similar background and theme, and the two authors' life experiences are also very similar, and the use of color is an important creative feature of Lu Xun and Joyce's works. The second chapter analyzes the application and literary value of color metaphor in the two works from the aspects of environmental description and characterization. Chapter three analyzes the color metaphors in the two works and makes a comparative study to reveal their similarities and differences. Chapter four discusses the causes of generality and difference from five aspects: body experience, color prototype, national cognition, cultural cognition and personal cognition. The last part summarizes the full text. This study is helpful for readers to understand the value of color metaphor in literary works, to better understand the theme of the works and the feelings expressed by the author, and to expand our understanding of color metaphors in English and Chinese, and to promote the exchange of literature and culture between China and the West.
