论《海浪》中的视觉艺术与画意书写

【摘要】:《海浪》(1931)作为现代主义文学的典范之作,是作者弗吉尼亚·伍尔夫(1882-1941)创新精神的极好体现。书中描绘的诸多场景具有高度的画面感,并与某些绘画艺术中的场景多有共通,这反映了视觉艺术对伍尔夫的影响。关于《海浪》中的视觉元素,学界有若干研究,但多着眼于作品中富含的视觉意象和颜色运用,鲜有研究从画意书写这一角度对作品中视觉艺术的具体运用进行系统解析。本文拟从主题表现、人物呈现、形式架构三方面对小说中视觉艺术、画意书写及其作用进行解读,进一步阐释小说中蕴含的视觉元素。 深受印象主义、后印象主义、抽象主义等视觉艺术运动的感染,伍尔夫深谙视觉艺术知识,并培养起一种视觉意识。她与罗杰·弗莱、凡妮莎·贝尔、克里夫·贝尔等艺术评论家及现代画家的长期密切交往加深了她对视觉艺术的认识,并促使她不断对绘画与写作这对艺术的关系进行思考。伍尔夫认为文字是一种开放性的媒介,因此经常从与凡妮莎、弗莱等人品评画作的过程中汲取创作灵感,从视觉艺术中发掘意象、隐喻、空间关系及潜在故事,以便冲破传统小说模式的束缚而又无损于小说的审美整体性。 《海浪》中视觉艺术、画意书写的运用及作用可见于其主题、人物、形式等的建构与呈现之中。小说用文字描绘出一幅幅印象主义组图,表现出自然的真实、生动与崇高;用后印象主义式的笔触使生命充盈着热烈的色彩、有力的视觉印象,产生出类似于后印象绘画中的多种效果;又如一幅立体主义拼贴画,小说对多种主题的视觉意象并置重叠,用立体主义多视角呈现的方法再现了无限的宇宙感。在人物呈现过程中,诸多具体画作和视觉艺术流派也隐现其中。奈维尔、伯纳德对不同画作的引用,体现出其不同的人物性格与价值观;苏珊、珍妮心理图景的文字描绘,如两种流派迥异的画作中的场景,表现出父权制社会体制中女性的两极。罗达和路易斯头脑中,抽象艺术式的图景再现,表现了其焦虑、不安及与现实世界的紧张关系。受视觉艺术及其有意义的形式这一审美观念的影响,小说的形式也体现出一定的视觉特点。视觉意象、视觉韵律、视觉结构作为小说中的三重形式,促就了其审美形式上的圆臻。 当今跨学科研究早已成为文学批评的一种趋向,对伍尔夫写作与视觉艺术之问关系的探讨,对我们在现代主义背景下重新发现“诗画一体”的传统也带来一些有益的启示。
[Abstract]:As a model of modernist literature, the author Virginia Woolf 1882-1941 is an excellent embodiment of the spirit of innovation. Many of the scenes described in the book have a high sense of picturesque, and are common to the scenes in some painting arts, which reflects the influence of visual art on Woolf. There are some researches on the visual elements in Wave, but most of them focus on the use of visual images and colors which are rich in the works. Few studies systematically analyze the concrete application of visual art in the works from the perspective of pictorial writing. This paper intends to interpret the visual art, pictorial writing and its function in the novel from three aspects: theme expression, character presentation and formal structure, and further explain the visual elements contained in the novel, which are deeply influenced by impressionism and post-impressionism. With the influence of the visual arts movement such as abstractivism, Woolf knows the visual arts and develops a visual consciousness. Her long close contact with Roger Fry, Vanessa Bell, Cliff Bell and modern painters has deepened her understanding of visual art and prompted her to think about the relationship between painting and writing. Woolf believes that writing is an open medium, so he often draws inspiration from the process of evaluating paintings with Vanessa, Frye, and others, and excavates images, metaphors, spatial relationships and potential stories from visual art. In order to break through the shackles of the traditional novel mode without compromising the aesthetic integrity of the novel, the visual art in Wave, the use and function of pictorial writing can be seen in the construction and presentation of its theme, characters, forms, etc. The novel depicts an Impressionist group diagram in words, showing the true, vivid and lofty nature, and using post-impressionist strokes to fill life with warm colors and powerful visual impressions. It produces a variety of effects similar to those in post-impression painting, such as a Cubism collage, the novel overlaps the visual images of various themes, and reproduces the infinite sense of the universe with the method of cubism and multi-perspective presentation. In the process of character presentation, many specific paintings and visual art schools also loom. Neville, Bernard's citations of different paintings reflect their different characters and values; Susan and Jenny's psychological images, such as the scenes in two different genres, It shows the polarity of women in the patriarchal social system. In the minds of Rhoda and Louis, the image of abstract art represents anxiety, uneasiness and tension with the real world. Influenced by the aesthetic concept of visual art and its meaningful form, the form of the novel also embodies certain visual characteristics. Visual imagery, visual prosody and visual structure, as triple forms in novels, promote the perfection of their aesthetic forms. Nowadays, interdisciplinary research has become a trend of literary criticism. The discussion on the relationship between Woolf's writing and visual art also brings some useful enlightenment to us to rediscover the tradition of "poetry and painting as a whole" under the background of modernism.
