[Abstract]:Carson McCullers is one of the outstanding writers of American literature in the 20 th century. She occupies an important position in the history of American literature with her profound understanding of the marginalized characters of sex and gender. Her works are famous for her novels, especially the Heart as Lonely Hunter and the Song of the sad Cafe. Both novels are praised by literary circles for their attention to sex and gender marginalization, revealing McCullers' sexuality and gender perspective: sex and gender are just an uncertain performance. Sexual and gender marginalized people also have the right to live in freedom and dignity as normal people do. As an important branch of postmodernism and post-feminism, queer theory focuses on sex and gender marginalized groups, questioning traditional heterosexual hegemony and challenging traditional dichotomy between sex and sex, and advocating individual freedom and respect. Gender diversity aims at building a harmonious and unified society. This paper will use the theory of cool to analyze two novels, "the Heart is a Lonely Hunter" and "Song of the sad Cafe". By analyzing its main characters and its theme, this paper reveals that the dichotomy of sex and sex hinders the development of personality. Calls for recognition of sex and gender diversity. This thesis includes four parts and six chapters: introduction, theoretical basis, main body and conclusion. The first chapter briefly summarizes Carson McCullers' life, works, research situation and similarities and differences between the two novels. McCullers' personal experience has led to her confusion about sex and gender, almost all of which are reflected in her works. The second chapter is the theoretical basis of the whole paper. Show the origin, development, main characteristics and application in literary criticism of queer theory. The theory of queer questions the traditional sex dichotomy, opposes its suppression and confinement of human nature, encourages people to live freely, and builds a harmonious social atmosphere. The third and fourth chapters analyze in detail the six main characters of "the Heart is the Lonely Hunter" and "the Song of the sad Cafe". Through the analysis of the main characters, this paper discusses the combination of novel and queer theory. The homosexual tendencies of Singh and Li Meng, the femininity of Biff and Marvin, and the bisexual personality of Mick and Emilia all reflect the idea of opposing sex and gender dichotomy, eliminating prejudice and discrimination. Chapter five discusses the themes of the two novels from the perspective of queer theory. Through the analysis of the theme, it shows that the dichotomy of sex and sex hinders the realization of human freedom, calls on people to acknowledge the diversity of sex and gender, and allows people to live freely in a harmonious society. Chapter 6, conclusion, emphasizes the main points of this paper and discusses the limitations and suggestions of this paper.
