重识上帝—后现代视角下多克托罗《上帝之城》的宗教主题研究

【摘要】：爱德加·劳伦斯·多克托罗是一位集历史与社会评论于一身的作家,他的多部作品都受到了极高的评价。近几年来,中国读者通过中译版接触到了很多他的作品。《上帝之城》是多克托罗在宗教主题方面的新尝试。小说中,多克托罗指出由于混乱、动荡和令人迷茫的社会状况,20世纪的宗教面临着困境。这种局面可以用伊哈布·哈桑的不确定的内在性来解释。 本文着眼于多克托罗的新作《上帝之城》,在后现代视角下解读作品中所反映的宗教问题,分析宗教在后现代时期所面临的困境以及这种困境背后的原因,从而解决这种困境找到宗教的归宿,希望这篇论文能在多克托罗作品研究的领域中做出微薄的贡献。 论文主体的第一部分论述了《上帝之城》中所体现后现代背景下的宗教精神的特征。在20世纪,宗教多元化和宗教世俗化的加强是美国宗教的两大特点,这体现在小说的两个主要情节中一十字架的失踪以及佩姆和萨拉的婚姻。小说中的新兴宗教团体是宗教世俗化加强的缩影。这些特征使得宗教脱离了传统,为宗教危机埋下了不稳定的因素。 论文的第二部分关注《上帝之城》所反映出的后现代视野下宗教精神所遭受到的质疑。威胁宗教的有三个方面的因素。20世纪人类的罪恶行为谴责了上帝,包括大屠杀和越南战争；现代社会的发展否定了上帝,包括哲学和科学；艺术形式中所反映的混乱的社会质疑了上帝,包括电影场景和音乐。 论文的第三部分探讨了后现代时期的宗教信仰的归宿。在《上帝之城》中,佩姆和派克主教都是虔诚的信徒,他们通过不同的方法来重识上帝,例如在以色列寻找历史上的基督和改宗信仰犹太教。然而犹太教并不是完美的宗教,并不能解决所有的宗教问题,还需要改进。因此,信徒还有任务,他们应该传承上帝的精神,改良这个新的宗教团体通去适应现代社会。 在英语语言文学的历史上,宗教永远是个经久不衰的话题。美国是一个有着很深的宗教文化背景的国家；宗教是文学、建筑、艺术创作的背景、母题和主题。《上帝之城》这部作品是多克托罗众多关注现实问题的作品之一,使他成为当之无愧的后现代时期的文学大师。通过对这部不朽之作的分析理解,可以使读者对20世纪美国宗教的状况和发展具有更加深刻的理解。
[Abstract]:Edgar Lawrence Doctorow is a writer of both historical and social reviews. In recent years, Chinese readers have come into contact with many of his works through Chinese translation. The City of God is Doctorow's new attempt on religious themes. In the novel, Doctorow points out that the 20 th century religion faced difficulties due to chaos, turbulence and confusing social conditions. This situation can be explained by the indeterminacy of Ihab Hassan. This paper focuses on Doctorow's new work, the City of God, explains the religious problems reflected in the works from the perspective of post-modern, and analyzes the dilemma that religion faces in the post-modern period and the reasons behind this dilemma. It is hoped that this paper can make a modest contribution to the research field of Doctorow's works. The first part of the thesis discusses the characteristics of the religious spirit in the post-modern background in the City of God. In the 20th century, the strengthening of religious pluralism and secularization were two major features of American religion, which were reflected in the disappearance of the cross and the marriage of Pam and Sarah in the two main plots of the novel. The new religious groups in the novel epitomize the strengthening of secularization of religion. These characteristics have separated religion from tradition and laid a source of instability for religious crisis. The second part focuses on the question of the religious spirit in the post-modern view reflected in the City of God. There are three factors threatening religion. The evil acts of human beings in the 20th century condemned God, including the Holocaust and the Vietnam War; the development of modern society negated God, including philosophy and science; The chaotic society reflected in art forms questions God, including film scenes and music. The third part of the paper discusses the post-modern period of religious belief. In the City of God, Bishop Pam and Bishop Pike are devout believers who rediscover God in different ways, such as searching for historical Christ in Israel and conversion to Judaism. Judaism, however, is not a perfect religion. It does not solve all religious problems and needs to be improved. Therefore, believers have the task of inheriting the spirit of God and adapting the new religious community to modern society. In the history of English language and literature, religion has always been an enduring topic. The United States is a country with a deep religious and cultural background. Religion is the background, motif and theme of literature, architecture and art creation. This work is one of Doctorow's many works concerning practical problems, which makes him a worthy literary master in the post-modern period. Through the analysis and understanding of this monumental work, readers can have a deeper understanding of the status and development of American religion in the 20th century.
