论厄普代克在《兔子,跑吧》中的宗教观

约翰.厄普代克是当代美国最著名的作家之一,同时也是一个多产的作家。他几乎获得了所有的文学奖项,包括普利策奖和美国图书奖。无论是在个人生活还是在文学生涯中,宗教一直是厄普代克所最关注的问题之一,厄普代克对现代宗教思想也具有浓厚的兴趣,因此,宗教经常成为他小说的主题。 《兔子,跑吧》是他的第二部小说,也是他的“兔子四部曲”中的第一部。小说发生的背景是上个世纪五十年代的美国,讲述了一个名叫哈里,绰号“兔子”的中产阶级青年因为不满缺乏信仰的生活而努力挣脱社会束缚去追寻宗教的故事,但是兔子从来就没有摆脱现实的束缚,即使在他找到上帝后,他仍然回到了现实生活中,因为对信仰的追求并不意味着放弃个人的存在。 小说反映了上个世纪五十年代美国经济高速发展而人的精神却高度匮乏的事实。古老的基督教一直是美国人民精神的支柱,但是在二十世纪五十年代的美国,基督教走向了两极分化:一是过分世俗化;二是过分神圣化,脱离了现实生活,因而都不能给人提供信仰支持。在小说中厄普代克对这一现象进行了剖析并表达了自己的宗教观。 本文将在总结前人对作者和小说《兔子,跑吧》研究成果的基础上,...
