【摘要】：《边城》是我国著名作家沈从文的代表作,有着很高的学术价值和研究价值。自1934年问世至今,《边城》的接受、翻译及研究已走过了近80年的历程。至今共出现了三个《边城》英译本:出版于1947年的第一个译本The Frontier City由金杽和白英(Robert Payne)共同完成;1981年的第二个译本The Border Town由戴乃迭(Gladys Yang)翻译;2009年的第三个译本The Border Town由金介甫(Jeffrey C. Kinkley)翻译。这些英译本在传播《边城》这一文学经典的过程中,发挥了巨大的作用,在不同的时代,从不同的角度,向不同的读者展示了其不朽的艺术魅力。基于此,作者对《边城》的英译产生了强烈的研究兴趣,并在本文中尝试从接受美学角度对其三个英译本进行比较研究。 接受美学是20世纪文学研究的一种新范式和新兴方法论,它标志着文学批评理论的重心由关注作品、作者转向关注读者—文本关系。以姚斯(Hans Robert Jauss)和伊瑟尔(Wolfgang Iser)为代表的接受美学理论家强调读者在文本接受过程中的主动作用,认为评价一部作品优劣的标准应是读者的反应,因此,在创作过程中,作者应充分考虑到读者的文化背景、生活经历、接受能力及阅读经验,即读者的“期待视野”。此外,一部文学作品当中蕴涵着大量的意义空白和未定点。作为架构起作者创新意识和读者接受意识的桥梁,这些意义空白和未定点要靠读者根据个人的理解进行阐释和解读。同样,由于译者担负着“双重角色”:既是源文本的读者又是译文的作者,因此,在翻译过程中,译者也要注重目标语读者的接受及反应,尽量使目标语读者的“期待视野”与自己对源文本的阐释和解读实现最大限度的接近,从而实现原文作者、译者和译文读者最大限度的视野融合。 本文作者选取《边城》不同时期、不同译者的三个英译版本,并运用接受美学的“期待视野”和“文本未定性”等概念对之进行比较分析。分析显示:由于各自不同的时代和文化背景,三位译者因此拥有不同的“期待视野”,同时三个英译本的读者也拥有不同的“期待视野”及接受能力。鉴于此,三位译者对源文本的意义未定点进行了不同的具体化,从而最终形成了不同的译本。 本文从接受美学视角对《边城》的三个英译版本进行比较研究,其意图不在于评定这些译本孰优孰劣,而在于探讨出现这些不同译本的原因。本文作者认为,《边城》就像一座丰富的宝藏,对其一次性的阐释根本不能穷尽它包含的所有意义,其永不褪色的光彩经得起也值得读者进行无穷的解读和阐释。而且,仅仅一个译本不可能同时契合不同读者在不同时期的“期待视野”。因此,我们必须通过多个译本的多次诠释和发掘,才能不断地接近实现对它的完整认识。
