模因论视角下《三字经》汉英翻译策略研究

【摘要】：作为国学启蒙读物之一,《三字经》以其浅显易懂、内容丰富的特点被历代中国人奉为经典并不断流传。所谓“熟读三字经,便知天下事”,《三字经》取材极为广泛,不但包括中国传统文化中的文学、史学、哲学、天文地理知识,而且包括人伦义理、忠孝节义、民间传说等内容。自十七世纪以来,《三字经》就已走向世界,其不同语言的译本也相继问世。《三字经》作为典籍,肩负着向世界展示中华文明的重任,对其英译本的研究得到了学者们的广泛关注,在中国典籍外译领域具有十分重要的意义。关于《三字经》汉英翻译策略的讨论并不少见,然而在学术飞速发展、不同文化紧密交融的大背景下,我们需要探寻一条相对较新的路径对其进行深入研究与分析,以便给研究注入新的活力。模因论在翻译研究中的应用就是其中之一。模因论在国内是一个尚未广泛研究的理论,它以达尔文进化的观点为基础对文化的进化规律进行解释。由于语言自身便是一种由模因构成的体系,《三字经》同样可以被视为是一种模因。因此,从模因论这一全新的切入点出发对《三字经》汉英翻译策略进行研究具有一定的新启示和解释力。本文正是以模因论为视角,重点探讨和分析归化与异化这两种翻译策略在《三字经》英译中的应用。从模因论的视角出发,通过对《三字经》的多个英译本进行比较和分析,作者最终得出如下结论：(1)作为两种常见的汉英翻译策略,归化和异化在《三字经》英译中都发挥着至关重要的作用,而且并没有优劣之分。以模因论为切入点进行分析,在《三字经》英译过程中恰当使用归化、异化策略本身即是成功模因的传递。(2)在模因传播的初期阶段,归化策略在《三字经》的英译是必不可少的,因为那个时期的目标语读者对中国文化了解甚少,解码和吸收文化模因显得十分困难,此时使用归化策略可有效增强目标语文本的可读性和对异域文化的可接受性。(3)而随着中英两种语言文化交流的加深,为保证外国读者接触到原汁原味的中国文化,异化策略在《三字经》英译中的使用可逐渐增加,与此同时,归化也会继续保持其不可或缺的基础地位。当单独采用归化或异化策略不能满足模因传播需要时,可将二者结合使用以弥补其中的不足。
