“退休——消费”之谜——基于家庭生产对消费下降的解释

【摘要】：退休后消费支出下降的现象与生命周期理论不符,被学术界称为"退休—消费之谜"。基于Becker理论,文章利用中国居民健康与营养调查(CHNS)及我国城市居民饮食消费与健康调查数据,将生产概念纳入消费分析后发现:第一,食物消费可视为投入时间和货币两种要素的家庭生产活动,老年人退休后时间成本下降,个体倾向于投入更多时间要素从而导致消费支出下降。第二,通过时间对货币的替代,食物消费支出的下降没有导致实际消费数量和质量的下降。模糊断点回归的实证结果显示:由于增加了家庭生产的时间,尤其是食物购买时间,退休后食物消费支出降低18%;尽管低收入个体的食物消费(量)易受到退休影响,但整体而言以营养物质、具体食物摄入为代表的消费数量和质量没有下降。
[Abstract]:The phenomenon of the decline of consumption expenditure after retirement is inconsistent with the theory of life cycle, and is called "the riddle of retirement-consumption" by academic circles. Based on the theory of Becker, this paper makes use of CHNSs and the survey data of dietary consumption and health of urban residents in China, and analyzes the concept of production into consumption. The results are as follows: first, Food consumption can be regarded as household production activity in which both time and currency are invested. The time cost of the elderly after retirement is reduced, and the individual tends to invest more time elements, which leads to the decrease of consumption expenditure. Second, the decrease in food consumption spending does not lead to a decline in the quantity and quality of real consumption through the substitution of time for money. The empirical results of fuzzy breakpoint regression showed that food consumption expenditure decreased by 18 percent after retirement because of the increase in household production time, especially food purchase time, although the food consumption (quantity) of low-income individuals was vulnerable to retirement. But as a whole, the consumption quantity and quality represented by nutrition and specific food intake did not decrease.
