顺应论视角下英语报刊社论中的模糊语研究

【摘要】：模糊性是语言使用中的普遍现象，它也是自然语言以及人类思维的内在特性。国内外许多学者从哲学、语义学以及语用学等领域对这一现象进行了研究。然而这些研究主要是从Leech的礼貌原则和Grice的会话原则来分析的。基于Verschueren的顺应论的研究则很少，以此来分析英语报刊社论中模糊语的研究则更少。当今时代，报纸是一种非常重要的大众传媒，它能把世界各地的消息传递给人们。阅读英文报纸也被普遍认为是了解世界和学习语言的好方法。随着评论文体的兴起，被认为是新闻媒体灵魂的社论吸引了大量的关注。社论的撰写和研究已成为业界热点。由于新闻语言是事实的载体，而社论是新闻报道的派生体裁，因此准确性也是社论语言的首要需求。然而这并不意味着准确性和模糊性是互不相容的。事实上，模糊语在英文社论中普遍存在。我们仍需进一步研究英语社论中的模糊语的使用。 Verschueren提出的顺应论能对英语社论中使用模糊语动机和作用做出恰当的解释。Verschueren认为交流就是一个顺应的过程。在语言使用过程中，人们都会有意无意地做出语言选择。在这个过程中，语言本身所具有的变异性、商讨性和顺应性使得人们可以做出适当的语言选择。Verschueren还认为作为高阶概念的顺应性是顺应理论的核心思想。为了实现对精神世界、社交世界和物理世界的顺应，，人们不断做出语言选择。以这一理论为框架，本文尝试分析英语报刊社论中模糊语的使用是如何顺应精神世界、物质世界以及社交世界的。作者从一些美国权威新闻报刊的网站上下载了许多社论，包括政治、经济、科技等不同主题。该研究采用定性和定量分析的方法。通过详细分析发现英语社论中使用模糊语是交际中语言选择的结果。模糊语可被作为一种有效合理的策略来实现主笔的交际目的，即适应精神世界、物质世界和社交世界。英语报刊社论中模糊语的使用对精神世界的顺应包括对读者精神世界以及社论撰写者精神世界的顺应。模糊语用来对物质世界的顺应是通过对时间、空间以及物质世界本身特征的顺应实现的。并且模糊语被用来顺应礼貌要求、政治团体以及避免对社会产生消极影响实现了对社交世界的顺应。此外结果显示对精神世界的顺应是首要的。该研究可以进一步充实对模糊语的研究，并且能为读者和社论撰写者提供一些指导。它可以帮助撰写者更恰当、更巧妙地使用模糊语来实现自己的交际目的，也可以帮助读者，尤其是英语学习者更好的理解模糊语在英语社论中使用的目的，从而帮助他们更好地理解目标语言。在这方面，该研究也能为语言学习提供一些启示。
[Abstract]:Fuzziness is a common phenomenon in language use, and it is also an inherent feature of natural language and human thinking. Many scholars at home and abroad have studied this phenomenon in the fields of philosophy, semantics and pragmatics. However, these studies are mainly based on Leech's politeness principle and Grice's conversational principle. However, there are few studies on adaptation theory, and less on vagueness in English newspaper editorials.
Nowadays, newspaper is a very important mass media, which can transmit news to people all over the world. Reading English newspaper is also generally regarded as a good way to understand the world and learn language. As news language is the carrier of facts and editorials are the derivative genre of news reports, accuracy is also the primary requirement of editorial language. However, this does not mean that accuracy and fuzziness are incompatible. In fact, fuzziness is ubiquitous in English editorials. We still need to study English editorials further. On the use of vague language.
Verschueren's adaptation theory can give a proper explanation of the motivation and function of vagueness in English editorials. According to Verschueren, communication is a process of adaptation. Verschueren also argues that adaptation as a higher-order concept is the core of adaptation theory. In order to achieve adaptation to the spiritual, social and physical worlds, people constantly make language choices.
Based on this theory, this paper attempts to analyze how the use of vagueness in English newspaper editorials adapts to the spiritual, material and social worlds. Methods. A detailed analysis reveals that the use of vagueness in English editorials is the result of linguistic choice in communication. vagueness can be used as an effective and reasonable strategy to achieve the communicative purpose of the author, that is, to adapt to the spiritual world, the material world and the social world. The adaptation of vagueness to the material world is achieved by adapting to time, space and the characteristics of the material world itself. And vagueness is used to comply with politeness requirements, political groups, and avoiding negative influences on society. In addition, the results show that adaptation to the mental world is of primary importance. This study can further enrich the study of vagueness and provide some guidance for readers and editorial writers. This study also provides some implications for language learning.
