【摘要】：缪天瑞生平跨越两个世纪，一生都在从事有关音乐的教育和研究工作，他亲身经历了新中国建国前后中国音乐文化事业的兴衰变化史，并一直致力于音乐文化的发展事业，在多个领域（音乐编辑、著述、译著等）为中国音乐的发展做出过重要的贡献。缪天瑞1926年上海艺术师范大学毕业后，便开始了音乐教育工作。1933年开始了音乐编辑工作，他所编辑的音乐书籍和刊物，内容和质量在当时的环境下都是处于前沿的位置，产生了重要的影响。他所主编《音乐教育》期刊是当时唯一一家政府性质的期刊，出版时间长达5年之久。1984年参与主编的《中国音乐词典》及《续编》，1989年作为编委副主任时编辑的《中国大百科全书·音乐卷》都是中国音乐界享有盛名的音乐辞书，尤其是缪天瑞在90岁高龄时由人民音乐出版社出版他所主编的《音乐百科词典》，被称作为中国音乐辞书建设中具有里程碑意义的音乐辞书，它的出版也开创了中国音乐辞书建设的新纪元。诸如此类。缪天瑞在音乐编辑实践中所运用的科学方法和其自身的学识和品质，都为后人所敬仰。对缪天瑞音乐编辑实践和编辑思想的研究，，一是让后人重视缪天瑞在音乐编辑中的贡献，二是希望通过对缪天瑞编辑实践和思想的研究，能为音乐编辑学学科提供些许理论支持和实践经验。
